WPA's latest charitable proj ect is a 100/100 proposition We're teaming up with Operation Christmas Child to spread the joy of the holiday season. In the May 1999 issue of the William Penn Life ("Charitable Ideas" page 3), you learned about Operation Christmas Child and its wonderful mission of sending gift-filled shoe boxes, relief aid and Christian literature to children in crisis areas around the world. Inspired by the idea of delivering hope in a shoe box, the WPA has adopted Operation Christmas Child as an Association-wide charitable project. We are asking all members, branches, employees, auditors, directors and their families to join us in the worthy cause. Our goal: 100 gift-filled shoe boxes. To reach our goal, we need your help. How can you help? By doing one of the following: • Fill a shoe box or two-or as many as your heart and wallet can fill—with items from the list found on the next page; or • Donate items from the list which we can include in shoe boxes; or • Donate money which we can use to buy items. Make out your check to "William Penn Association." And please note on the check that it is for Operation Christmas Child. Monetary donations should be mailed to our Home Office. Loose items should be delivered to either the Home Office or your own branch president or branch coordinator. All How to prepare your shoe box If you wish to donate a g ft-filled shoe, box, all you need to do is follow these five steps: • Find an empty shoe box. (If you would like, you can wrap it with Christmss paper-wrapping the box and lid separately--but wrapping is not required.) • Decide whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl and choose an age categoi7: 2-4 years old; 7-9; or 10-14. Mark it on the top of the box or use the appropriate slip found on the back cover of this issue. • • Fill the box with a variety of gifts (see list on next page). You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.) • Enclose $5 or more and put it inside your shoe box to help cover shipping and other costs. Checks-made payable to “Samaritan’s Purse’-are recommended rather than cash. Put a rubber band around your box and lid. • Drop it off at the WPA Home Office, 709 Brighton Road, Pittsburgh, Pa., by Sept. 15. If you are coming to the General Convention, please bring it and give it to Dianne Charles. You may also give it to you branch president or branch coordinator by Sept. I who will see to its delivery. Or, you can take it anytime to an Operation Christmas Child collection center. For the center nearest you, call (828) 262-1980 or log on to www.samaritans. org. All shoe boxes, loose items and monetary donations must be received at the Home Office by September 15, 1999. 6 William Penn Lile, August 1999
