Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Andy McNelis National Director Branch 34 survived the tornados, thank God. Some of our members had minor damage, but nothing drastifc. I checked my golf clubs and they are all intact (not that it would make a difference to my score if they got mangled). Yes, summer is here and so is the annual golf outing. It is in Hershey, Pa., this year, and I can already smell the chocolate in the air. I am sure the adults and children can hardly wait to golf and visit the amusement park. This is another opportunity for great fratemalism. Our branch held its second annual Penn Scenic View fraternal weekend the last weekend in May. About 20 people attended. It was another nice weekend with good friends, good food and good conversation. Birthday wishes go out to the following branch members: Andrew Vámos, Maria Vámos, Lou Kubus, Caroline Mayor, Walter Bugielski, Joe Toth, Andy McNelis III and Marguerite McNelis. A special birthday wish goes to my grandson, Donovan, who will be a year old. Get well wishes go out to Ann Kubus and Margaret Klein. On a sad note, the last Mass ever to be held at St. Ann Hungarian Church was celebrated June 14. The Mass was said primarily in Hungarian by the Rev. Sebastien Senec from St. Vincent College, Latrobe, Pa., and was videotaped. The beautiful statue of St. Ann led a procession to St. Stephen Church where it is now prominently displayed beside the statue of the Blessed Virgin. All of us at Branch 34 would like to wish a happy and healthy retirement to Maria Bistey, our branch coordinator. Maria will continue to be our branch coordinator. If you need information about WPA insurance and annuity plans, please call her at (412) 431-6035. If you have any news you would like to share, please call Andy McNelis at (412) 421-6031. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President The recipient of Branch 800’s annual bond award for the year 1998 goes to Paul William Bums. Paul A. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA By Margaret Marconi Branch 8121 Secretary Our branch held a regular business meeting June 3 at St. Marys Parochial School annex. After handling routine business, we spent most of the evening talking about the terrible storms we had recently. Our worst storm struck the evening of Sunday, May 31. Some members lost their electrical service for 16 hours. The wind damaged many houses, and trees and electrical wires were down everywhere. All through this the telephones remained in good order. Most of us headed for our cellars with blankets, water and a couple of flashlights. We thank God it wasn’t worse. We feel sorry about what happened in Pittsburgh. The people affected by the storms there are in our prayers.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ Articles & photographs for the August issue of the William Penn Life are due in our office by July 24-, 199Ö
