Fodor was selected as the Fraternalist of the Year by the West Virginia Fraternal Congress (WVFC). Mr. Fodor, a resident of Weirton, W.Va., received his award during the annual meeting of the WVFC held Oct. 10 to 12 in Martinsburg. David L. Meese, FIC, of the Lutheran Brotherhood and last year’s honoree, presented Mr. Fodor this year’s award plaque. Mr. Meese praised Mr. Fodor for his dedication to the WPA, the WVFC and the fraternal way of life. In accepting the award, Mr. Fodor thanked all those who were instrumental in his being so honored and assured all that he would continue to work as hard for the WVFC as he has in the past. Mr. Fodor was also reelected to serve a seventh straight oneyear term on the WVFC Board of Directors. The congress also elected Lucia Taylor McCoy to a one-year term as president. The three-day meeting was chaired by outgoing president Doris E. Hughes, FIC, of the Lutheran Brotherhood. Fifty-five delegates representing 19 fraternal societies attended the meeting. West Virginia Insurance Commissioner Hanley Clark, speaking at the Oct. 10 banquet, said many agents were dropped in West Virginia this summer because they did not finish the required 24 hours of continuing education. He cautioned the delegates to heed the call to complete the education courses every two years, or face the loss of their licenses. Because the Fraternal Insurance Counsellors conducted continuing education sessions during the meeting, delegates, including Mr. Fodor, were able to pick up four hours toward the 24 they need to complete by the end of 1998. The following day many delegates visited the site of a Habitat for Humanity project in which the WVFC is involved. Delegates were shown three houses which are to be completed by Christmas. Delegates also heard a stirring message about our nation’s flag from Harriette D. McPherson, executive director of the National Flag Day Foundation. Giving thanks By George S. Charles, Jr., Nat’l President During this holiday season, let us first be thankful for all our blessings, our health, our families and our achievements. Also, during this special time of the year, each of us is called upon to recall the many blessings we have received during the year and to make an effort to share our bounty with those less fortunate than ourselves. We are certainly thankful for the many fraternal efforts offered by our members throughout the year, and we look forward to your continued support and assistance in the new year. We must remember to give thanks for the precious values of family, our church, community, respect for life, respect for education and hard work which are fundamental to our membership and our legacy to pass on to our children and grandchildren. We at the William Penn Association have done our very best to fulfill our mission to our membership with honor and prudence. Our faith and blessings have always been in you, and we hope our efforts will grow to greater glory. May the fraternal spirit continue to guide us as we serve our communities, our heritage, our faith and each other.
