Page 8, William Penn Life, May 1996 Golf entries due June 27 COLUMBUS — At long last, spring has arrived and William Penn golfers are returning to their favorite courses in preparation for the Association’s 13th Annual Golf Tournament. As you bring your clubs out of storage, grab a pen and take time now to fill out the reservation form found in this issue. All reservations for the tournament and golf awards dinner are due at the Home Office by June 27. The tournament activities will begin Friday, July 12, with the annual reception for all golfers and guests at the Holiday Inn- Columbus East, headquarters for this year’s tournament. The reception will feature plenty of food, refreshments and great fraternal fellowship. The evening will also feature the annual putting contest for the benefit of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. For those golfers arriving early, tee times may be reserved for Friday at the Turnberry Golf Course, the site of the tournament. To schedule tee times for that day, call the golf course at (614) 645-2582 and mention that you are with the William Penn Association. The 18-hole tournament will be played on Saturday, July 13. There will be prizes for the lowest net and gross scores in both men’s and women’s divisions, plus prizes for the winners of various skill shot contests designed to test your driving and putting abilities. The weekend's big prize—a branch new 1996 automobile— will go to the eligible member who scores a hole-in-one on the designated par-3 hole during tournament play. The skill shot contests will be open to all golfers. However, to be eligible for the hole-in-one prize, a golfer must be a lifebenefit member ot the William Penn by July 1, 1996, with at least one year’s premium paid. The weekend’s official activities will conclude Saturday evening with the annual golf awards dinner at the Holiday Inn. A social hour will precede the dinner. All dinner guests will be eligible to win one of many free door prizes to be given away after dinner. The evening will conclude with the exciting auction raffle for a new set of golf clubs and bag. Entry fee for the tournament is $35 for William Penn members and $45 for non-members. The fee includes greens fees, carts, a golf gift and refreshments at the turn. The entry fee does not include the cost for the awards dinner. Tickets for the dinner are $25 per person. Accommodations at the Holiday Inn are $59 (plus tax) per night per room. All golfers and guests must make their own room reservations directly with the hotel. Reservations may be made by calling (614) 868-1380. When making your reservations, you must mention that you are with the William Penn Association in order to receive the special group rate. Deadline for room reservations is June 27. Golfers, branches, businesses, members and groups may sign on as hole sponsors for the tournament for a $100 donation to the Scholarship Foundation. The name of each sponsor will be placed at the tee of the hole being sponsored. Memorial Day May 27 Remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country. Pittsburgh societies name Lichvarik top fraternalist PITTSBURGH - George G. Lichvarik, national president of the Orthodox Society of America, was recently selected as the "1996 Fraternalist of the Year” by the Fraternal Societies of Greater Pittsburgh (FSGP). Mr. Lichvarik will be the guest of honor at the 21st annual Fraternalist of the Year Banquet to be held Saturday, May 4, at the Green Tree Marriott Hotel in Pittsburgh. The William Penn Association joins the Fraternal Societies of Greater Pittsburgh in extending congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Lichvarik. GEORGE G.
