Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI By Barbara A. House National Director Good luck to all teams participating in the Annual Bowling Tournament. The best part is the fraternalism. It sure is great to see everyone from all the branches. Thanks, Teri Corba, for helping me out and filling up my team. After many years in the Downriver area, Ida Kanyo is moving. Good luck in your new home. I hope you come back every now and then. You will be missed by all your friends. Especially me. On March 20, we lost a special friend. Joseph Pallagi passed away. He was a very special person. Rest in peace, Joe; you will be missed. Special condolences also go to the families of Robert Gorin, Frank Kantor Jr. and Stephen Lochli. Please remember these members in your prayers. Very soon the invitations will be in the mail for our 50-year member banquet. We are honoring all members who joined during the years 1942 to 1946. It will be wonderful to see all these members. Happy birthday to a very special friend, Father Barnabas from Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church. I hope you spend many more birthdays with WPA member Joe Bodick (right) and his wife Kaye (second from left) recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Joining them are Anthony Di Giulo and Irene Toth. A very special William Penn welcome to our newest members, Carol Ann Truesdell and Ashley Haas. Ashley is the grandchild of Carol and Doug Truesdell. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Andy McNelis National Director With the bowling tournament fast approaching, the members of Branch 34 are looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new friends as the Association’s bowlers head for Pittsburgh. Travel safely, and we’ll see you at the lanes. At our April meeting, we celebrated the 29th birthday of Ann Kubus. Ann, may you enjoy many, many more! Congratulations to Walter Bugielski, branch vice president, on his recent unanimous election as commander of the U.S. Navy Seabee Veterans of America unit in western Pennsylvania. The members of the unit are veterans who served their country from World War II through Bosnia. Congratulations go out to Branch member Beth Marie Primm who will be graduating May 19 from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. Beth has been a WPA scholarship recipient for four years. In the fall she will be entering the University of Pittsburgh Law School. Beth asked me to extend her thanks to the William Penn Association Scholarship Foundation and the members that support it. (Not pictured: Joan Mauerman) Branch 129 Columbus, OH By Arpad Sibrik Branch 129 Coordinator The middle of April has come and gone, but Old Man Winter doesn’t seem to want to let up his grip on us. We enjoy a couple of days of spring, then it’s back to winter. When will it end? The branch is sending a women’s team to Pittsburgh for the bowling tournament, along with several members to cheer them on. The ladies are hoping that the 1997 tournament will be held somewhere other than Pittsburgh. They would like to see some other cities. The branch is planning a September picnic at the same place where we held last year’s picnic. No date has been set yet; it depends upon the availability of the park. More information will appear in the next issue of the William Penn Life. Welcome to Margaret Tobias, mother of Maria Domin (a newer member of the William Penn), on her arrival in Columbus from Slovakia on April 14. We hope she will enjoy her extended stay. Margaret George is still in a Grove City nursing home. She is still holding her own. Congratulations to the Rev. Steven Nyeste and the Hungarian Reformed Church of Columbus on the church’s 90th anniversary. A celebration was to be held April 21 with services at the church followed by a banquet at the Berwick Party House. The 1996 golf tournament will be held July 13 at the Turnberry Golf Course (which, by the way, is in great playing condition). We are hoping for a good turnout. More information about the tournament appears elsewhere in this issue. The next branch meeting will be held Wednesday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 1591 Lockbourne Road. We hope to see you there. For any life insurance needs, please call Arpad Sibrik, Branch 129 coordinator, at (614) 231- 8024, or write to 645 S. Kellner Road, Columbus, OH 43209.
