Page 8, William Penn Life, February 1996 WPA tours provide opportunity for members to be part of history NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — People who have taken William Penn sponsored tours to Hungary will tell you our tours have produced many happy, lasting memories. This year’s William Penn tours, however, offer our members and friends what truly can be called a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is one of even deeper significance for those of Hungarian descent. It is the opportunity to visit Hungary during the 1,100th anniversary of its founding. Many commemorative events will be held in Hungary this year, and those joining the tour will have the opportunity to be a part of history in the making. The first tour will be conducted June 13 to 27; the second, Sept. 10 to 24. Each tour will feature the same itinerary, beginning with departure from New York and Chicago aboard Swissair. The first stop will be Vienna, Austria, for a two-night stay. Then the tours will travel to Hungary with visits to the cities of Sopron, Sárvár, Kecskemet, Szolnok, Hortobágy, Debrecen, Szilvasvard, Szentendre, Esztergom and Budapest. Along the way the tours will visit Esterhazy Castle, the 1,000- year-old Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma, the world-famous Herend porcelain factory and museum, beautiful Lake Balaton, the Great Plains and the wine region of Tokaj. Guests will also enjoy lunch at a csarda, attend a show of the renowned Royal Lipizzaner horses, view the newly reconstructed Millenium Monument at Heroes’ Square and take in the view of Budapest from atop the Buda Hills. Each tour also includes a fivenight stay in Budapest, giving guests ample time to enjoy much of what this historic capital has to offer. The atmosphere is sure to be festive as Hungarians celebrate 1,100 years of traditions and customs. The cost of this exciting tour is $2,949 per person*, based on double occupancy, for the June tour.
