April 1995, William Penn Life, Page 5 All-stars in any league The next group of major league replacement players? Probably not. But, the 1932 junior baseball team sponsored by the McKeesport, Pa., branch of the former Verhovay Aid Association played hard and played out of love for the game. All the young players were members of the Verhovay and proudly represented the Association. Top row, l-r: Bishop, Kerekes, Szeszák, Sírnomyák, Fodor. Center row: Yasko, Keleman, William Füredy, Stefurák. Bottom row: Mészáros, Kerekes. (Unfortunately, we do not know most of the players first names.) Our thanks to William Furedy for loaning us this picture and reminding us of when baseball was truly the nation’s pastime. Continued from Page 4 providing their delicious homemade baked goods. We will be chartering a bus to take our bowlers to the annual bowling tournament in Pittsburgh, and we are looking forward to a fun-filled weekend. Our congratulations go out to one of our league bowlers, Margaret Horvath, who recently bowled a 577 series and was recognized in the Dayton Daily News. If you have any questions concerning your insurance needs, please contact Branch President Steve Horvath at 434-3249. A sincere wish for a blessed and happy Easter is extended to all of our readers and members. Branch 525 Los Angeles, CA By Sarika Gotz Branch 525 Reporter Greetings from Branch 525 in California. This has been one terrible winter. So far, we have had earthquakes, fires, rains, floods and mud slides, but we’re still here. The sun is finally shining on us, and spring has arrived with 80- degree weather. Branch Coordinator Andy Gotz had to travel to Sárospatak, Hungary, due to the death of a family member. We send him and his family our deepest sympathies. Our thanks to Mrs. Szabó for signing up our two newest branch members, her twin grandchildren. They are so cute. We will submit their pictures for the "Welcome To Our Fraternal Family” section soon. For the answers to your insurance questions, call Andy Gotz at (909) 985-6826. Have a wonderful Easter. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President Happy Easter from the officers of Branch 800 to our members and their families. May the resurrected Lord on Easter morning bless and keep all of you in His loving care. Recognition night will be held at the May meeting to honor those members who have attained 50 years of membership in our society. We congratulate them all. Those members qualifying for this recognition will be notified by mail. We thank the Home Office for their assistance in this matter. Our branch received a thank you letter from the Rev. David R. Becker, pastor of St. Dismas Parish, located within the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon, Pa. He thanked Branch 800 for its annual donation assisting the Catholic programs there, and noted it was deeply appreciated. Father Becker wrote that he plans to buy some copies of the New Cathechism, Bibles, religious medals, other sacramentals and good adult education videos, which are always helpful and popular with the inmates. Three volunteers from our branch do spiritual work at the Blair County Prison, and all expressed their thanks for our branch’s recent donation to purchase religious items for the inmates there. Every Thursday at 7:00 p.m., inmates at the Blair County Prison gather in the chapel to receive the sacrament of reconciliation, attend Mass, recite the Rosary and say a respect for life prayer. Ten priests volunteer on a rotating basis to conduct these services, which are well attended. All branch meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the social hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Branch 8020 McKees Rocks, PA By Bill Arbanas Branch 8020 President The elderly residents of Hope House, a personal care home in McKees Rocks, were entertained Feb. 28 by Smacky the Clown. Smacky sings and plays his four-string guitar at veterans’ homes, schools, clubs or wherever he is needed to bring love, happiness and smiles. Accompanying him was beautiful, 10-year-old Melissa Messina who performs acrobatic dances. She has performed all over the Pittsburgh area, as well as Atlantic City and Virginia Beach. The two of them brought laughter and smiles to the men and women who live in Hope House. Smacky demonstrated how to apply clown make-up and told jokes that had us all in stitches. Refreshments were served to all present. This event was made possible by the members of Branch 8020. Among those attending this enjoyable and heartwarming affair were Branch President Bill Arbanas, Vice President Albert Telipsky and Secretary Nick Kotik. We thank all those who attended and helped make it a special day for the lovely residents of Hope House. Brooch News Branch 8057 Verona, PA By Mary Dialoiso Branch 8057 President Members of Branch 8057 gathered this past December for the branch’s annual Christmas party at the Village Inn in Verona.
