It turned out to be quite a success with about 60 members and guests in attendance, some coming from as far as Alaska. (Home for a visit and a family wedding were Irene Tomory’s son and daughter-in-law.) We thank all the creators of the many casseroles and desserts that filled the buffet table. The highlight of the afternoon was the traditional bacon fry. No seats were available as everyone crowded in to take their turn at NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The 50th anniversary of the arrival of Raoul Wallenberg in Budapest was commemorated in a program and exhibition on July 9 at the Hungarian Heritage Center in New Brunswick. The program included a message from Ambassador Per Anger of Sweden, who received Wallenberg 50 years ago on July 9, 1944, in Budapest at the Sweden Legation. Other participants in the program included consular and embassy officials of Hungary and Sweden and the former U.S. Ambassador to Sweden, Franklin the fire. Mamie Tollas won the 50/50 raffle and 15 other lucky people won other raffle prizes. We hope everyone had a good time. We thank everyone for their help and support. Welcome home to Joe and Margaret Maty who recently returned from an Alaskan cruise. It is nice to hear trom our fellow William Penn members. I'm sorry that a storm in Youngstown prevented me from talking longer to the nice lady from Mingo Junction who called me. A reminder: Aug. 14 is Hungarian Day at the Youngstown Hungarian Club House, 2219 Donald Ave., from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m, with Joe Jeromes on the bandstand. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have recently lost a loved one. Happy anniversary wishes to all those loving couples celebrating their special day this month. Best wishes and birthday greetings to all those adding another year, especially Mary Cibulas who will be 88. Speaking of birthdays, could it really be true that Branch 28 Vice President Steve Novak is turning 70? Get well thoughts to all those who haven’t been feeling up to par, especially to longtime active member Margaret Barkó who underwent surgery while visiting her son. Cards can be sent to her c/o 1917 Woodduck Lane, Forsberg. The exhibition depicts the heroic effort that Wallenberg organized with others in 1944 to rescue the urban Jewish community of Budapest from Hitler’s Nazi deportation to the gas chambers of Auschwitz. Wallenberg, a Swedish citizen, had volunteered to carry out the rescue effort on behalf of the U.S. War Refugee Board. With protective Swedish passports, "Swedish houses’’ and other valiant means he is credited with saving 100,000 lives in Hungary. Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29575. Anthony Molnár observed the 60th anniversary of his ordination Sunday, June 26, by doing what he does every day—offering mass at Our Lady of Hungary Church. Many good friends, including members from Branch 132, attended the mass and stayed afterwards for a reception in Fr. Molnar’s honor. Father Molnár is a native Hungarian who, after his ordination, was asked to assist the Hungarians who were fleeing Hungary just before the start of World War II. Subsequently, he was sent to London and, in 1957 at the request of the bishop, came to South Bend for what was to be a temporary assignment. He has been here since then. Father Molnár offers a Hungarian language mass every Sunday at 7:30 a.m. On Tuesday evenings he conducts free Hungarian language classes in the church basement. Students need only a notebook, a textbook and a desire to Magyarul beszélni. Father Molnár, who also observed his 85th birthday, plans to continue to offer mass, visit the sick and help the Hungarians of our community—until God changes his plans.
