The tournament will be held Saturday, July 16, at the Venango Trail Golf Club in Warrendale, Pa. The weekend will begin Friday, July 15, with a reception for all golfers and guests at the Sheraton Inn-Pittsburgh North in Mars, Pa. The evening will feature free food and refreshments and much fraternal fellowship. It will also feature the annual putting contest for the benefit of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. For golfers arriving early, the Venango Trail Golf Club will have tee times available on both Thursday, July 14, and Friday, July 15. Golfers wishing to arrange tee times for either of those days should call the club at (412) 776-4400. When calling, golfers should mention that they are with the William Penn Association tournament. Our 18-hole tournament will once again feature a hole-in-one contest open to all eligible life benefit members of the William Penn. A 1994 automobile will be given to the eligible member who scores an ace on the designated par-3 hole during tournament play. Other skill shot contests will be open to all golfers, and all golfers will enjoy complimentary food and beverages at the turn. The annual golf awards dinner will be held Saturday evening at the Sheraton Inn. All dinner guests will be eligible to win one of many free door prizes to be given away. The exciting auction raffle for a new set of golf clubs and bag will be open to William Penn life benefit members only. Golfers, branches, businesses or groups may also sign on as sponsors for holes along the golf course for a $ 100 donation to the Scholarship Foundation. The name of each sponsor will be placed at the tee of their hole. Those wishing to become hole sponsors should contact the Home Office. All members and friends interested in playing in this year’s tournament must send their completed reservation form (found on Page 3) to the Home Office by June 28. All golfers and guests must contact the Sheraton Inn-Pittsburgh North directly to reserve their accommodations for the weekend. Make your plans and send in your entry form now. You won’t want to miss this fun fraternal event. ★ Proclamation ★ Fraternal Week & Flag Day WHEREAS, the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA), a trade organization for fraternal benefit societies, traditionally sponsors Fraternal Week to tell the nation of the benevolent, civic and patriotic activities of fraternal benefit societies; and WHEREAS, cultural and spiritual values have long been recognized by fraternalists who have made significant gains promoting such values in our country; and WHEREAS, the National Flag Day Foundation has developed a ceremony called Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance, which transcends age, race, religion, national origin, political and geographic differences by encouraging Americans across the nation to pause and recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag; and WHEREAS, fraternal benefit societies throughout the nation support the efforts of the National Flag Day Foundation to encourage national patriotism; and WHEREAS, the need for decent, affordable housing for all people is the goal of Habitat for Humanity International, and the NFCA has adopted this goal, and specifically the Habitat for Humanity Operation Park project in Phoenix, as a national cause; be it RESOLVED, that the seven days beginning June 8,1994, and ending June 14, 1994, be designated-as Fraternal Week and that NFCA member societies, along with state fraternal congresses, enlist local unit leader support to promote the celebration of Fraternal Week in an effort to spread the ideals and objectives of fraternal benefit societies to every corner of this land “of liberty and justice for all”; and be it further RESOLVED, that special celebrations be held during Fraternal Week to honor the flag and the Pledge of Allegiance; and be it further RESOLVED, that this proclamation be sent to all NFCA member societies and state fraternal congresses so the principles promoted by Fraternal Week and Flag Day may be communicated to members. Heerman, president, nfca ★ Fraternal Week June 8-14 ★ Flag Day June 14 * Registration deadline nears for Hungarian Language Camp PITTSBURGH — Any William Penn life benefit member age 18 or older who is interested in learning Hungarian or improving his or her Hungarian language skills is invited to attend the fifth annual Hungarian Language Camp. The session will be held July 31 to Aug. 6 at Penn Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. Students will receive 25 hours of instruction focusing on practical usage of the Hungarian language. The camp will be limited to 25 students, allowing for greater individual attention and more time for meaningful exercises. Instruction will be offered at a beginner’s level, an intermediate level, or both, depending on the needs expressed by those registering for the camp. Instructional sessions will be held twice daily, Monday through Friday. Each day will start with breakfast followed by a morning session. After breaking for lunch, students will reconvene for an afternoon session. Following dinner each day all instructors and students will meet for enjoyable social activities, which will provide students with an opportunity to practice what they have learned in class. The cost for the week is only $200 per person. The cost includes six-nights lodging, all meals, instruction and learning materials. Clean linens and towels will be provided. The deadline for reservations is July 2. Reservations will be taken on a first-come/first-served basis. Those whose reservations are received after the class has been filled will have the option of being placed on a waiting list in the order in which their reservations were received. A limited number of double rooms will be available on a firstcome/first-served basis. All other students will be housed in dormitory style accommodations. To reserve your spot in our language camp, complete the form found on Page 3 and mail it to the Home Office. Please include a $50 per person deposit with your form.
