I also hope by now you have gotten your teams together and are planning on joining us on the bus to the annual bowling tournament in New Brunswick, N.J. The fare is very reasonable. Please contact me as soon as possible to reserve a seat. This is always such a fun event. Try to attend. We’re so happy to hear that National Director Lou Fodor is doing so well. Must be all the love, prayers and good wishes. Keep up the good work. Congratulations to National President E. E. Vargo on his award from the American Hungarian Foundation. We are all very proud of you, and we’re glad you’re ours. Congratulations also to Louis Almassy on his election as president of the Hungarian American Culture Club of Michigan. We at William Penn are looking forward to working with you. Good luck during your term. We extend congratulations also to Rose Wickers who was elected as secretary of the Culture Club. Way to go, William Penn members! Happy birthday wishes to Louis Almassy and Jennifer Szatmári (21!). Welcome home Krisztina Kortvesi, who marched with the Southgate High School band at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. We’re glad you’re home. You were really missed. Welcome home to all our Michigan snow birds. Hope you brought all the nice weather with you. We really could use some. Please plan on attending our regular membership meeting on April 4 at 7:00 p.m. at 1410 Southfield in Lincoln Park. Your attendance is always welcome. Think bowling and happy thoughts. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter A blessed and glorious Easter to all. May this long awaited spring bring much sunshine and happiness to everyone. The Youngstown American- Hungarian Federation commemorated the War of 1848 by hosting a program March 20 at St. Stephen of Hungary Church hall. The program included László Pásztor, a retired Hungarian government representative of the Pittsburgh area, and the Rev. John Reiss, pastor of Our Lady of Hungary Church in Youngstown. The St. Stephen dance group performed several dances and music was provided by Joe Losoncy with Joseph Fabri reciting the traditional poems. Branch 28 will hold its next meeting on Sunday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Country Kitchen Restaurant on Boardman-Poland Road. We hope to see more members in attendance. Congratulations to Irene Nemeth on the birth of her second great-granddaughter. Best wishes to all family members on this blessed event. The Mill Creek chapter of the American Business Women Association recently awarded its annual Woman of the Year award and much to my surprise, I was the lucky honoree for 1994. On the recovery list from this past winter we find Frank and Mary Torok, John Burkosky, Velma Miller, Irene Aczel, Ruth Fabian, Andrew Konya, Frank Konya, Louis Sabo, Peggy Hoffer, Margaret Shaffron and Emma Kish. Happy anniversary to all those sharing another year with their spouses, especially to Joe and Margaret Maty on their 50th year together this April 15. Birthday greetings to all the spring celebrants. Condolences to all families who have lost a loved one recently. Remember, for any insurance questions, call Alan Szabó at (216)792-7851 or Gabe Nameth at (216)792-8145. Please contact me with any news you wish to share. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Barbara Kapinus Branch 34 Coordinator Attention Branch 34 members— we still need a few bowlers for the annual tournament in New Brunswick, N.J., this May. Let me know if you would like to participate, and I will make certain that one of the team captains receives your name. For those of you who are interested, one of our branch members, Pauline Bracken, has been working diligently on a display project. On Wednesday, May 11, St. Clair Hospital will have an exhibit dealing with transcultural nursing from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be held in the 4th floor conference room (which is on the same floor as the main entrance). Pauline will have a display representing Hungary. Other nationalities will also be represented. Branch 132 South Bend, IN At the monthly branch meeting on March 16 the members voted to give out Easter food baskets to three families in need. If you know of someone in need, please let us know. Despite the fact that not one person responded to our plea for help in the October 1993 issue, painting and cleaning of the branch home continues through the dedication of the officers and their families. The barroom, meeting room and officers meeting room have been painted and cleaned. What has been done looks sharp. Scott Lehmann has been appointed chairman of the clean-up committee. We will get together on Saturday, April 16, to do more cleaning and fixing up. If you would like to help, call Scott or Kathy at 291-7237 or call the office and leave your message. About 30 Hungarian-Americans, including members of Branch 132, attended the Fourth Annual Ethnic Day held March 7 at the Caseyville Township building in Fairview Heights, 111. Despite inclement weather which forced the celebration indoors, nearly 500 people representing some 20 nationalities shared in the festivities. Among the Hungarian contingent was Michael Racz, a member of Branch 132, who addressed the crowd in Hungarian. The event featured guests dressed in ethnic costumes and colors and ethnic music. Tables covered with ethnic foods encircled the entire room. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Anna Marie Pochan Branch 296 Secretary/Treasurer Due to inclement weather Branch 296 canceled its January and February meetings. At our March meeting we discussed the agenda of social events for 1994. We would appreciate hearing from our members with any suggestions or ideas regarding the above agenda. Please plan on attending our next membership meeting on April 4. Your participation is always needed and appreciated. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President Our branch will honor its 50- year members during our meeting on Tuesday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church basement. A nice social evening is being planned. Those members qualifying for this honor will be notified by mail. At our March meeting, Branch Secretary George Dorman read a letter that was received in response to our branch’s annual donation to the chaplain of the Huntingdon Correctional Institution. The Rev. David Becker, the Catholic Chaplain of the facility, wrote that our kindness was deep-Continued on Page 6 BRANCH 14 DAY AT SEA WORLD Sunday, June 12,1994 Send tickets to: Name:_______________________________________________ Address: Phone:________________________________________________ No. juvenile members_______X $5.00 = $_______________ No. adult members__________X $8.00 = $_______________ No. non-members_________X $12.95 = $ TOTAL $______________ Send form and check payable to “William Penn Association” to: Dawn Ward 7000 S.
