Holiday open house Home Office employees Debbie and Steve Evans were among the volunteers who helped prepare the Hungarian Classroom at the University of Pittsburgh for a holiday open house in December. The tree was decorated with traditional szaloncukor (a Christmas candy) and mézes kalács (honey cookies). Next to the tree stood a small nativity scene reminiscent of a Transylvanian village. The Hungarian Classroom is one of two dozen such rooms at the university, each devoted to a different nationality. New Brunswick to host Debrecen Week this June NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The City of New Brunswick this June will host Debrecen Week, during which the New Jersey city will celebrate its relationship with its sister city in Hungary. The event will showcase the products of Debrecen’s food, cosmetics and fashion industries in the hopes of establishing new markets for these products. The event will also feature a day-long scientific meeting at Rutgers University, focusing on the formation of relations between the United States and Central Europe. Debrecen Week will coincide with New Brunswick’s 18th Annual Hungarian Festival to be held June 5. The festival draws tens of thousands of people from across the country each year, and will provide an excellent opportunity to introduce Debrecen to the American public.
