All reser­vations are due July 21. Branch 129 Columbus, OH By Arpad Sibrik Branch 129 Coordinator Branch 129 held its well-attended June meeting at the VFW 3426 hall. Our women’s bowling team had a good time at the annual bowling tournament in Pitts­burgh, as did several members who were there to cheer our ladies on. Everyone enjoyed the hospitality. We are happy to report that George Tokár is feeling better. We hope to see you at the golf banquet, George. Get well soon. Several Branch 129 members passed away during the last sev­eral months. Our condolences go to their families and friends. Branch 129 is looking forward to the golf tournament. We are hoping for good weather. The Turnberry Golf Course is in ex­cellent shape and is very close to the hotel—less than five minutes via Route 256 near Pickerington. Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA Karen Beth Wieder of Mechanics­­ville, Md., daughter of Caroline Kovach and the late William J. Kovach of Branch 159, graduated with honors May 27 from Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md. Karen earned an associate in arts degree in radiography after maintaining her placement on the dean’s list her entire two years at the college. Her successful academic en­deavor was made possible in part by grants from the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholar­ship Foundation. She is currently employed as a graduate radiologic technologist at the Southern Maryland Pro­fessional Center in Clinton, Md., and St. Mary’s Hospital in Leon­­ardtown, Md. She is the wife of Dennis Wied­er and mother of two children, Sandra, 14, and Dennis, 9. Branch 214 Flint, MI The members of Branch 214 were saddened by the recent deaths of fellow branch members Alex Vlaz Jr. and his brother Gabor Vlaz. Alex, 84, died on May 31, 1993, and Gabor, 81, passed away four days later on June 4, 1993. Both were born in Hungary and immigrated to the U.S. in 1912, settling in Kentucky. Both had been residents of Flint since 1929. Alex was employed by Buick for 32 years, retiring in 1969. He was a member of UAW Local #599, Buick Liberty Post #310 and Buick Retirees. Gabor retired from Buick in 1970 after 37 years of service. He, too, was a member of UAW Local #599. Alex is survived by his wife Elizabeth; Gabor was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1990. Gabor is survived by his chil­dren, James D. and Nancy Vlaz of Washington, Mich., and Veroni­ca and Robert Gibson of Grand Blanc, Mich.; grandchildren, Kimberly Holland, Richard J. Vlaz, and Holly E. Bernotaitis; and great-grandchildren, Chris­tina and Austin Vlaz, and Leslie Holland. Both men are also survived by brothers, John Vlaz ofTexas, and John Urban of Flint; and sisters, Isabell Skrceny of Florida, Mar­garet Baranowski of Flint, and Elizabeth Hall of Tawas, Mich. May they both rest in peace. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Steve Horvath Branch 249 President Branch 249 members who partici­pated in the bowling tournament this year had an enjoyable time. Congratulations to our women bowlers! They came in first place. We are looking forward to doing this again next year. A warm thank you to Robert Ivancso for running an excellent tournament. Christo­pher also received a certificate of recognition for academic achieve­ment in biology. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mazur and grandson of Mrs. Emma Balia and the late John P. Balia. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH The members of Branch 8164 met recently for the final time this summer, attending a Mass at St. Anthony Church celebrated by the Rev. Richard O’Gormon of New York. Afterwards, members met in the rectory hall for a breakfast served by Julia and Angela D’Aurora. Branch President Vince Lo­­presto led the opening prayer and the pledge of allegiance. National Director Louis A. Fodor spoke on the changes in life insurance premiums effective as of June 1, 1993. He also announced that the Association’s golf tourna­ment will be held in Columbus, Ohio, on July 23 and 24. Get well wishes were sent to Mr. Fodor’s wife, Ethel, who recently broke her foot. Albert Di Falco presented the financial report. Our meetings will resume on Sept. 12. We hope to see you there.
