The queen and her husband attended a reception at the Budapest parliament building. President Árpád Göncz and his wife greeted the queen and Prince Philip. Following the British and Hungarian national anthems, the royal couple and Göncz reviewed the honor guard, then met members of the Hungarian government and the foreign diplomatic corps, all shown nationally on television. The queen, whose great-greatgrandmother was Hungarian, and the prince were invited to Hungary by Göncz.
