Wukovits Sr., former National Director and organizer and leader of Branch 132 South Bend. Mr. Wukovits, 82, died Nov. 13, 1992, in his daughter’s home after an illness. Throughout his life he exemplified the true meaning of fraternalism, devoting his time and energies to his family, our Association, his community and his Hungarian heritage. He was bom Nov. 17, 1909, in South Bend, a son of the late Paul and Theresa Wukovits. After attending grammar school in Hungary, he finished his high school education in the United States. His career with the Association spanned 50 years. He joined the then Verhovay Aid Association in February 1941 as a district manager and became one of the most successful agents in the Association’s history, establishing many sales records. He was appointed field supervisor in August 1949. In January 1960 he became regional manager before being named state manager in 1964. He served as supervisor of agencies from 1968 to January 1971. He served on the Association’s Advisory Board from 1983 to 1991. He was equally committed to his branch, serving as a branch officer for 47 years, first as branch secretary then branch president. For his devotion, the Association awarded Mr. Wukovits the Illustrious Citation and the Distinguished Service Degree during our Centennial Celebration in 1986. He was well-known in the South Bend area as a tireless promoter of Hungarian culture. He helped organize countless Hungarian affairs and served for more than 50 years as the host of a Hungarian radio program. On Dec. 4, 1938, he married Gladys Howell. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1987. He is survived by two daughters, Theresa Myers and Marianne Wentland, both of South Bend; a son, National Director Frank J.
