March 1992, William Penn Life, Page 7 Golfers prepare for annual tourney PITTSBURGH — During a recent spell of unseasonably warm weather, many William Penn golfers hit their local golf courses, no doubt with an eye towards this year’s national golf tournament. This year’s tournament will be held on Saturday, July 25, only four short months away. So, the time to start planning your trip is now. The tournament will be played at the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in West Middlesex, Pa., the site of the sixth annual tournament held in 1989. Accommodations, the Friday evening golfers reception and Saturday evening’s golf awards dinner will all be at the Ramada Inn (formerly the Sheraton Inn-Shenango). Friday’s reception will feature free food and refreshments and the annual putting contest for the benefit of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. Saturday’s dinner will feature a door prize giveaway and the fun and exciting auction raffle for a new set of golf clubs and bag. The tournament itself will include special skill shot contests for both men and women golfers, including prizes for the longest drive, longest putt, closest to the pin and closest to the line. Plus, there will be the exciting hole-inone contest. The skill shot contests will be open to all golfers. However, to be eligible to participate in the hole-in-one contest, a golfer must be a life benefit member of the William Penn Association with at least one year’s premium paid. So, all golfers who are not currently life benefit members should contact their local branch coordinator for information on enrolling. More details and tournament entry forms will appear in upcoming issues of the William Penn Life. In the meantime, get out those clubs and get ready to hit those links because spring is just around the corner.
