Fratemalists to build two homes in Tennessee NAPERVILLE, IL — The National Fraternal Congress of America’s theme of "Joining Hands to Touch Lives” will take on a new and special meaning this summer. During the observance of Fraternal Week, June 8 to 14, the NFCA plans to finance and build two houses in Nashville, Tenn. The project, called "Raise the Roof, ’ ’ is part of its commitment to Habitat for Humanity, one of the NFCA’s national causes. Organizers of the "blitz building” project say it is the biggest national fraternal effort in the NFCA’s 105-year history. The NFCA is currently soliciting its 100 member societies for funds to reach its goal of $72,000 and for volunteers to help build the two houses. Fratemalists will join the experienced workers of Habitat for Humanity of Nashville to make the dream of home ownership a reality for two deserving families. Volunteers will also work side by side with the families that will live in the houses, which will be completed by the end of the week. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization which works in partnership with low-income families to build and renovate houses which the families then buy on a no-interest basis. To date, the organization has completed construction or renovation of more than 15,000 single-family homes worldwide. It has more than 500 chapters throughout the U.S. and more than 60 sponsored projects in 20 nations around the world. Habitat officials are currently working to establish a project in Hungary. For more information on Raise the Roof, contact the NFCA, 1300 Iroquois Drive, Suite 260, P.O. Box 3087, Naperville, IL 60566-7087. William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
