Helping Santa distribute the gifts were retired National Secretary Gus G. Nagy and his wife Betty. Everyone enjoyed a buffet lunch. The adults also enjoyed a special holiday punch prepared by Branch Vice President Richard Toth. We would like to thank retired National Director William C. Kohut for his kind and generous donation of apples and oranges which were given to the children. A big thank you also goes to all the officers of both branches who helped to make this party a success. It takes a lot of cooperation from the members and officers of the branches to make a party a success year after year. Finally, we would like to thank the National Officers, Directors, and employees of the Home Office for their cooperation and extend our best wishes for a very happy and blessed 1991. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA By Clara Fenessy Branch 76 Reporter Our branch held its election of officers and Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club. Branch Coordinator Steve Szemes greeted those attending then reported on branch operations and plans for the coming year. Officers elected for 1991 were: Joseph Karoly, president; John Gubicza, vice president; Elsie Szemes, treasurer; Helen Molnár and Steve Pokorny, controllers; and Clara Fenessy, branch reporter. We would like to thank retiring Branch President John Mikula for his many years of dedicated service. After the meeting everyone joined in the holiday spirit and festivites of the party. We enjoyed the traditional disznótoros menu of hurka, kolbász, székely gulyás, appetizers and delicious pastries, all served family style. We wish to thank the Hungarian Club officers and staff for their kind consideration. Vice President John Gubicza and his wife Eleanor spent the holidays visiting their daughter and family in Florida. They certainly picked the right time, and we hope they had an enjoyable trip. We would like to have more of our members attend our meetings and take an active role in our functions. Let us hear from you. Any suggestions would be considered. News of your families and activities makes good copy. For all your insurance needs and related matters, please call Steve Szemes at (215) 543-8876. We wish all a happy, healthy and peaceful 1991. Branch 132 South Bend, IN By Frank J. Wukovits, Jr. Branch 132 Secretary-Treasurer Our Branch 132 annual membership dinner-dance was a success. Many members came and most stayed late. The family Christmas party was well received. We had a fine young magician, Kim Daugherty, perform. Kim likes kids so he incorporates them into his magical acts. The children at our party were happy to help and were mesmerized for the entire performance. The ladies served hot dogs, potato chips and pop. Many guests stayed to socialize, with some noting that three generations of their families have attended our Christmas parties. The election of branch officers for 1991 was held Dec. 11. Elected were: Alex Horvath, president; Kenneth Wentland, vice president; Frank J. Wukovits Jr., secretary-treasurer; Helen Pécsi, chairwoman for charitable activities; John Burus, social fund treasurer and Joseph Bertolan and Goldie Pal, auditors. This past holiday season our branch participated in the Holiday Basket project. We added $45 to the amount authorized by the Board of Directors, thus enabling us to give wonderful food baskets to some needy families. Our branch also made charitable donations to the Cancer Society, Salvation Army, St. Elizabeth Briarbank Senior Citizens Facility and American Lung Association. Our branch will hold a Sunday dinner at the club on Feb. 17. We’ll try to hold a Sunday dinner at least every other month on the third Sunday. Call the office for more information. Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA By Caroline Kovach Branch 159 Reporter Parkside United Church of Christ’s Social Room was the setting for Branch 159’s annual family Christmas party held on Sunday, Dec. 9. The guests were greeted by Branch Coordinator William Kovach, his wife Caroline and Mrs. Clown who immediately set the party in motion by painting unique designs on the children’s faces. After painting each child, Mrs. Clown did some magic tricks and distributed variously shaped balloons to the children. An arousing chorus of "Jingle Bells” brought on the appearance of Santa Claus (portrayed by David Mitchell). Santa handed out gifts and boxes of candy to each child. A gift was also presented to each mother present, after which refreshments were served and enjoyed by all. Branch 189 Alliance, OH Our branch recently collected $2,200 for the benefit of the John Slimack Shelter for the homeless, the only such shelter in Stark County.
