Page 12, William Penn Life, August 1991 Branch News Members and guests from Branch 28 Youngstown, Ohio, travelled to Welbburg, W.Va., for the William Penn Home Festival July 28. Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara Ann House Branch 18 Secretary It sure is nice to be home again. My mom and I had a great time in Hungary, but, as we all know, home is better. Hungary is undergoi g a huge change, and it will take a lot of hard work and patience before it is done. We will be having our 50-year member banquet on Sept. 21. All members eligible for this honor will be notified by mail. This is always such a wonderful event. Please try to attend. The Branch 18 Ladies Auxiliary is celebrating its 30th anniversary Sept. 22. Details will appear in the next branch report. Our annual card party is scheduled for Sept. 30. Please contact the club for tickets as soon as possible. This event is always a sellout. Congratulations, Carol and Doug Truesdell, on your sudden and unexpected windfall. If anyone deserves it, you do. We love you. Well, maybe by our next report, the jet lag will be gone. I swear the older you get, the longer it takes to get over it. Remember, for all your insurance needs, please contact Darlene Szatmári at 283-6360. Until next time, stay happy and healthy. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Peg Sándor Branch 28 Secretary-Treasurer The date has finally been set for our annual picnic. This fun affair will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, from noon to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Branch President Steve Sándor, 133 Struthers-Coitsville Road. Bring your lawn chairs, casseroles and appetites and have some fun. All members are invited. For more information, call Peg at (216) 755-9105. The national golf tournament and the William Penn Home Festival were both great successes. Our branch was well represented at the Festival. It certainly is great to belong to such a nice family of fraternalists. Everyone from the National President to the employees just ooze with charm; their friendship and warmth are something to behold. Our sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. John Burkosky on the death of Mary’s brother, Father Joe Turk of Hawaii. May he rest in peace. Happy 50th anniversary wishes to Joe and Margaret Demertz. Happy birthday greetings to Mary Bursack, Irene Kady, Irene Nemeth, Branch Vice President Steve Novak, Sándor Tollas and Jonathan Sakas. Vacationing in Atlantic City are Margaret and Joe Maty; in Colorado, the Papalias and Joe and Julia Taylor. The annual Hungarian Day held by the Hungarian Federation of Societies and Churches will be held Aug. 11 at the Shady Run Picnic Grounds. Boritz and His Continental Orchestra will be playing. For your insurance needs, call Branch Coordinator Gabe Nameth at (216) 792-8145 or Alan Szabó at (216) 792-7851. If you have any news you would like published in the William Penn Life, please call me at (216) 755-9105. Branch 44 Akron, OH By Elizabeth K. Darago Branch 44 President It’s been a "long, hot summer,” but the heat hasn’t stopped Branch 44 members from having fun! Thirty Branch 44 members enjoyed the July 13 picnic which featured homemade dishes and desserts by our members and Hungarian sausage and chicken paprikas by our officers. Special thanks go to Helen and Mike Eberhardt who cooked dumplings in the 90-degree heat (phew!) and set up tables and chairs. The bus trip to Cleveland, the "All-American City,” had 31 members wearing their travelling shoes and boating caps. We learned about the bridges, buildings, squares and flats and that the people of Cleveland are really friendly. Where else could we have gotten a "private” Lollythe-Trolly tour and a private luncheon on a river-sailing ship? A "Goodtime III” was had by all. As we move into the second half of 1991, here’s a schedule of branch activities for you to mark on your calendars: Sept. 15 - Meeting #7, General Convention update. Oct. 13 - Insurance meeting and Hungary video. Nov. 10 - Holiday activities meeting. Dec. 8 - Christmas party. Please, don’t forget to bring a can of food for the needy to each meeting. Let’s continue to help those less fortunate than us. Some Branch 44 members have expressed interest in a trip to Las Vegas. If you have any comments or are interested in such a trip, call 673-3347. We’ll set a trip if there is enough interest. For your insurance needs, call Alan Szabó at 798-9515. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ By Ernest J. Mozer, Sr. Branch 51 Coordinator With the end of summer fast approaching we are all looking forward to the upcoming 32nd General Convention and the election of national leaders who will guide the William Penn Association to greater accomplishments. Our branch will have two delegates attending the Convention: Arthur Barillo and Ernest J. Mozer Sr. We wish to welcome to Branch 51 Mr. John Tauber who has been appointed as the new agent for northern New Jersey. John is a very young and energetic person and is very anxious to meet our membership. Should you want to discuss any matters regarding your present policy or the purchase of new insurance, please do not hesitate to call John at (201) 340-3679 anytime. John is also very community minded. He presently serves as president of the Clifton (N.J.) Chapter of the Deborah Hospital Association. The hospital, located in Browns Mills, N.J., performs heart surgery on anyone needing this procedure regardless of their ability to pay. Branch 89 Homestead, PA We congratulate fellow Branch 89 member Kristen Leigh Strahl of Rockville, Md., on her graduation this May from the University of Richmond Robin’s School of Business. Kristen graduated with a degree in finance and marketing. She is the daughter of Janice and Jim Strahl of Rockville and the granddaughter of Helen and George Toth of West Homestead, Pa. Kristen and all of her family are members of Branch 89. Branch 129 Columbus, OH By Arpad Sibrik Branch 129 Coordinator Congratulations to Margie Boso and David George for being elected as delegates to the September Convention in Pittsburgh. We had a very large crowd at the delegate election meeting. William Penn’s future in Columbus is very bright indeed. We’re sorry to report there were no representatives from Branch 129 at the national bowling tournament. We hope to send a team next year. However, we did have a team from our branch play at the recent golf tournament in Warrendale, Pa. Our golfers did not earn a place in the winners’ circle, but did come in with good scores. The most important thing was that we had fun. The golfers reception, banquet and hotel accommodations were first class. We are making plans for our branch picnic to be held Sept. 15 at the Jeffrey Foremans club. At the picnic we will present 50-year membership pins to all of our qualifying members. We hope to have a representative from the Home Office at the presentation. Congratulations to Terri and Michael Isabel on the birth of their son, Jacob Michael, born on June 10. He weighed in at 9- pounds, 5-ounces and was 22- inches long. Mother and baby are doing well. The proud grandparents are Arpad and Priscilla Sibrik. For any insurance needs, contact Arpad Sibrik, 645 S. Kellru r Road, Columbus, OH 43209, or call 213-8024. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Ron Balia Branch 296 President Branch 296 will hold its annual bacon roast on Sept. 18. We urge all members to attend this "delicious” outing. The event will signal the end of summer and lead us into a new schedule of events for the fall. We at Branch 296 are looking for ways to make our meetings more interesting and helpful to our members. If you have any new ideas, please attend our meetings and share your suggestions. With your help we can build upon the fraternal nature of our society and more successfully promote our branch activities. So, if you are a member but have never attended a meeting or branch activity, we invite you to get out of your easy chair, head out your door and join us at the September bacon roast. A surprise is in store for all who attend. Branch 8020 McKees Rocks, PA By William J. Arbanas Branch 8020 President The William Penn Association and Branch 8020 McKees Rocks were honored recently by the Robinson Developmental Center Recent graduate Kristen Leigh Strahl of Branch 89 Homestead, Pa. during a banquet at the Pittsburgh Airport Hilton. The banquet was attended by many representatives from local volunteer organizations as well as local and state government officials. The banquet was held in honor of all those who have donated their time and efforts to help the 132 retarded and disabled residents of the Robinson Developmental Center. Both the Association and Branch 8020 were recognized for their longtime support of the Center’s work. Branch 8020 President William Arbanas accepted a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the Association, while Branch Secretary-Treasurer Nick Kotik accepted a similar certificate on behalf of Branch 8020.
