PITTSBURGH — This August the William Penn is once again offering its adult life benefit members an outstanding opportunity to learn the Hungarian language at an affordable price. The Association’s second Hungarian Language Camp will be held Aug. 4 to 10 at Penn Scenic View, Rockwood, Pa. The one-week camp will provide students with 25 hours of instruction focusing on practical usage of the Hungarian language. Instruction will be offered at either a beginners or intermediate level, depending upon the wishes of those members expressing a sincere interest in attending the camp. You will spend two weeks visiting some of Europe’s most exciting and interesting cities, meeting and making new friends, and sampling the best of two cultures. As a member of our tour group, you will also be a participant in a historic event: a special St. Stephen’s Day Mass in Budapest celebrated by Pope John Paul II. Our tour takes off from New York on Aug. 8 and returns Aug. 22. The first stop will be Vienna, Austria, one of the grand cities of Europe. After two nights in Vienna, our tour will continue with visits to Hungary’s greatest attractions. You will visit Sopron, Győr, Lake Balaton, Esztergom and Szentendre. Guests will also tour Eszterhazy Castle, Festetics Castle, the world famous Herend Museum and Herend factory, and the Tokaj wine region. The tour will also feature a stay in Budapest during the St. Stephen’s Day festivities. After attending the Mass, our tour group will take a wonderful dinner cruise on the Danube. The deck of the cruise boat will serve as your reviewing stand for a spectacular city-wide fireworks display that evening. Each night of the tour you will stay in a first-class hotel featuring a room with a private bath. You will also travel on deluxe motorcoaches with a qualified Englishspeaking tour guide. The cost for our European vacation is $2,669* per person, based on double occupancy. Deadline for golf entries nears PITTSBURGH — The fun and excitement of the William Penn’s national golf tournament is only weeks away, and the deadline for entries is drawing near. All members and friends interested in playing in this year’s tournament must send in their completed reservation form (below) to the Home Office by June 14. So, if you have not sent in your entry, please do so now. You won’t want to miss the great weekend we have planned. The weekend will begin Friday, July 12, with the annual reception for all golfers and guests at the Sheraton Inn Pittsburgh North in Mars, Pa. There will be plenty of good food, refreshments and great fraternal fellowship for everyone. The evening also will feature the annual putting contest for the benefit of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. The 18-hole tournament will be played on Saturday, July 13, at the Venango Trail Golf Club. Along with prizes for the lowest net and gross scores in both men’s and women’s divisions, golfers will compete in various skill shot contests designed to test their driving and putting abilities. The prize everyone will be shooting for, however, will be the brand new car which will be awarded to the first eligible member* who scores a hole-inone on the designated par-3 hole. Golfers also will be able to enjoy complimentary food and refreshments after the ninth hole. The weekend’s official activities will conclude Saturday evening with the annual golf awards dinner at the Sheraton Inn. A cocktail hour will precede the dinner. Students will be asked to arrive at the camp on Sunday, Aug. 4. Classes will be held twice a day, Monday through Friday. Each day will start with breakfast followed by a morning session. After breaking for lunch, students will reconvene for an afternoon session. Following dinner each day all instructors and students will gather socially so students can practice their new skills. The cost for the week is $200 per student. This price includes lodging, all meals, instruction and learning materials. Clean linens and towels will be provided. A limited number of double rooms will be available on a firstcome/ first-served basis. All other students will be housed in dormitory style accommodations.
