The Branch 705 trapshooting team has completed an 18-week league at the Mayville Gun Club. Writing this to you is very easy, for our results this year are very similar to those of recent years. In the second half of the season, the William Penn team came out as champions of their division. However, in the fourway division shootoff to determine the second-half champion, we came in second. Using an 80 percent handicap system of scoring, the winning team came in with just a little more than three targets better. As division winners all teammates receive a trophy carrying the William Penn name for their efforts. This year’s team consisted of Mike and Steve Wald, Mark Lentz, Marc Trott, Jack Lippert and Scott Batterman. Mike Wald had a very consistent year and emerged with the highest overall average. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President After a fun-filled summer and no meetings, our branch resumed its monthly meetings beginning with September’s meeting. We remind all our members that our monthly HAPPV HALLOWEEN meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes social hall. Please try to attend and have a say in planning your branch’s affairs. Leroy Douglas, our branch vice president and chairman of our summer corn boil outing, gave us his report on everything pertaining to this successful event. Leroy has been chairman of this affair for the past 10 years. He is very dedicated to making this event successful each year, and we thank him for it. We have already begun planning next year’s corn boil. Plans also are being made for our December Christmas dinner. Branch Marshall Jim Stoner is checking on all the particulars. More information on this event will appear in the near future. Did you know that our Branch Secretary George Dorman has held that office for 20 years? We thank George for his faithful and dedicated service to our branch. Happy Halloween to all members and their families and, above all, to all children and grandchildren who will be waiting anxiously to go out trick or treating on Oct. 31. Branch 8036 Greensburg, PA By Glenn P. Johnson, Jr. Branch 8036 President Branch 8036 of the William Penn Association at St. John’s Church in Scottdale has donated another book to the Scottdale Public Library. Eugene Beran, branch member and the mayor of Scottdale, is president of the library board. For many years Branch 8036 has been promoting the local library. This book is being donated in memory of Beth Ann Johnson, a victim of the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing on Dec. 21, 1988. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA Our members gathered for a very interesting business meeting on Sept. 5 at St. Marys Grade School. Our guest speaker was Vesta Fritz, coordinator for interparish services. She noted that our area is home to three parishes, three grade schools and one high school. She said it is her job to unite the efforts of the three parishes in order to get more projects done and have bigger and better activities. These would include visitation of the ill, supporting new church members, comforting those who have lost loved ones, and driving those without cars to church and meetings. Vesta did a fine job. We enjoyed her and her work. Branch 8149 Swissvale, PA By Marie Boyle Donahue Branch 8149 Reporter Well, the new season has started, and we held our first meeting Sept. 10. Members of our branch participated in a night of recollection held at St. Anselm’s on Sept. 13. The speaker was Father Scott Seethaler. Our branch is hosting a card party Oct. 13 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anselm’s School hall, located on McClure Street in Swissvale, Pa. Admission is $3.00. Everyone is welcome. Branch 8155 Enhaut, PA After taking a three-month recess, our branch resumed its regular monthly meetings on Sept. 5 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. The meeting was called to order by Branch President Steve Sipos. During the meeting, we welcomed new Branch 8155 member Dick Mohn and set Dec. 9 as the tentative date for the annual senior citizens Christmas dinner. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH Branch 8164 resumed activities for the fall-winter season with a mass and breakfast at St. Anthony’s Church. The Very Rev. Gene Mullett celebrated the mass, and the breakfast was handled by Julia D’Aurora and Matilda Mauer. Peter Buffone called the meeting to order with reports read by Branch Secretary Albert DiFalco. Rev. Mullett, the new pastor at St. Anthony’s, was introduced. Louis A. Fodor, chairman of the National Auditing Committee, gave a report on the Community Festival held recently at the William Penn Home in Wellsburg, W. Va. Michael Vecchione, branch president emeritus, also spoke about the assistance given to the Home by the members of Branch 8164.
