Gotz Branch 525 Secretary Branch 525 joined the Southern California American Hungarian Club in Bloomington to host a joint Christmas party Dec. 3. Branch President John Balint played the "Krampus” for the children along with Santa Claus. Branch Coordinator Andrew Gotz handed out William Penn Christmas carol books and presents to the children. The Bloomington Hungarian Club served a wonderful Hungarian dinner. Music was provided for our dancing and listening pleasure. A great time was had by all. Branch 8020 McKees Rocks, PA By William Arbanas Branch 8020 President The members of Branch 8020 spread Christmas cheer to the elderly and retarded during this past holiday season. Santa, along with our members and friends, treated the residents of the William Penn Home in Wellsburg, W.Va., to a beautiful Christmas party. There was music and refreshments and bags filled with goodies were given to everyone in the Home. All in all, everyone had a good time. Santa and his helpers from Branch 8020 also paid a visit to the Robinson Developmental Center, a home for retarded adults. The residents there enjoyed refreshments, cookies and ice cream and lent a hand trimming the tree. Donations from the branch and Home Office were presented by National Vice President Zoltán B. Emri to Marie Manzella, coordinator of the Robinson Center. Kris Kringle had one more visit to pay, this one to the Hope House for the Elderly in McKees Rocks. Here, again, music filled the air as Santa passed out bags filled with goodies to each resident. All the residents, staff members and families were treated to ice cream, cake and refreshments. We were honored to have Vice President Emri and Pennsylvania State Rep. Fred A. Trello join Branch President Bill Arbanas and his wife Verna, Branch Vice President Albert Telipsky and Branch Secretary-Treasurer Nick Kotik on this visit. Even with the bitter weather and snow, we brought the true spirit of Christmas to 222 individuals. Branch President Arbanas also presented turkeys and boxes of fruit to St. Frances De Sales Church and F.O.R. Center, both in McKees Rocks. Branch 8057 Verona, PA By Emily Tipping The Advance Leader "Call me Grandma D.” Verona resident Mary Dialoiso does not reserve that name for her 13 grandchildren and five great-granchildren, but is addressed with such affection by the hundreds of children, senior citizens and hospital patients who benefit from her good will. The 73-year-old president of Branch 8057 this past December prepared hundreds of Christmas party favors, stockings and gift baskets for patients at Kane Regional Center and seniors at Pittsburgh’s Corpus Christi Residence. She also worked with members to stage a Christmas party for students at St. Joseph’s School in Verona. "It’s not what you give them, it’s the thoughts behind it. I enjoy making people happy.” Mrs. Dialoiso has crafted party favors and gifts since the age of 15. The creativity which led her to fashion crepe paper costumes as a child now surfaces in her holiday crafts, recycled from odds and ends. Plastic strawberry baskets, used Christmas cards and old candles may seem useless to many, but to Grandma D they can mean Christmas centerpieces or a decorative gift holder. "You’d be surprised what you can make out of nothing.” What Mrs. Dialoiso makes is friends. Hospital patients and shut-ins appreciate the baskets of paper tissues, lip balm, candy and knitted scarves and slippers she delivers. "This is what we get out of life,” she points out. No one appreciates life more than Grandma D. Two years ago, doctors and family were convinced she had cancer. An operation resulted in removal of a large tumor and part of her intestine, but Mrs. Dialoiso says no trace of cancer was found and she recovered in two weeks. A more recent hand operation to correct a disorder called carpal tunnel has left her with limited use of one hand, but she says it has not affected her work. "It bothers me sometimes, but nothing is going to keep me down.” Branch 8075 Wilkes-Barre, PA The members of Branch 8075 were pleased to welcome Floyd Bryan to our Dec. 19 meeting. Mr. Bryan presented an informative program explaining the various William Penn insurance plans now available. A number of new members have joined our society, and we hope to have more new members join us in the near future. The fine program presented at our meeting should help us reach this goal. Branch 8149 Pittsburgh, PA By Marie Boyle Donahue Branch 8149 Reporter We all enjoyed our Christmas party held in December at the Waverly Restaurant in Swissvale, Pa. Branch 8155 Enhaut, PA Sixty-seven senior citizens attended the annual Christmas dinner sponsored by Branch 8155 this past December. During the most recent holiday season, our branch also donated a basket of food to a needy family from St. John the Evangelist Parish. We also gave each of the church’s eight altar boys a Christmas gift of $5. Our members also helped decorate the church for the holidays. On Jan. 13, many of our members participated in the annual dinner for bingo workers and their wives. The dinner was held at Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH The members of Branch 8164 met Dec. 14 for a mass and Christmas breakfast at St. Anthony Church. The breakfast was served by Julia D’Aurora and Mathilda Maier. Branch President Peter Buffone presided with the Rev. Robert Mascolino giving the invocation. Michael Vecchione led guests in the singing of Christmas carols. Prayers were recited for the deceased members of our branch, including Albert Antinone, Constance Palumbo and Navy Commander L. C. (Chuck) Fodor. Election of branch officers was held and all present officers were unanimously reelected to serve in 1990. They are: President Buffone; Angela D’Aurora, vice president; Albert DiFalco, secretarytreasurer; and Julia D’Aurora and Sebastian Grossi, auditors. At our January meeting, we discussed plans for a dinner to be held April 23 at which we will honor our 50-year members and other distinguished members. Serving on the dinner planning committee are President Buffone, Rev. Mascolino, Mr. Vecchione and Vice President D’Aurora. The next branch meeting will be held Sunday, Feb. 11 at St. Anthony’s. Branch 8222 Pittsburgh, PA By Eileen M. Wenzel Branch 8222 Secretary Branch 8222 held its Christmas party Dec. 3 at Duranti’s Restaurant in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. Joining us for this party were 12 guests from the Western Pennsylvania School for the Blind. They all enjoyed the party and thanked us for inviting them. We also collected $25 for our "Respect for Life” project. This money will help defray the expenses for beauty supplies for the beauty shop our branch sponsors at the St. Joseph Nursing and Health Care Center in Garfield. In the month of November, our members spent 175 volunteer hours at the St. Joseph Center.
