NASWADI Br. 28 Youngstown, OH Br. 44 Akron, OH Resident of Home marks 99th birthday WELLSBURG, WV — Bessie Bailey, the oldest resident of the William Penn Home, celebrated her 99th birthday on Nov. 3. Joining Mrs. Bailey in commemorating her special day were family members and many residents and staff members of the Home. Among the many birthday greetings she received was a card from President and Mrs. Bush. Mrs. Bailey was born and raised in Pace, W.Va. She later married and became a housewife and the mother of 10 children. Her family continues to visit her frequently at the Home. Although nearly a century old, Mrs. Bailey is in remarkably good condition, according to Home Administrator Paul T. Kovács. She keeps herself active by participating in all of the Home’s programs and social events. Not only is Mrs. Bailey the oldest person currently residing at the Home, but also may be the oldest resident in the facility’s history, Mr. Kovács said. Many of the Home’s current BESSIE BAILEY residents are in their late 80’s and 90’s, a fact Mr. Kovács attributes in part to the excellent quality of care the residents receive. He also said plans are being made for a big celebration to mark Mrs. Bailey’s 100th birthday next year. Timely Tax Tip In order for parents to get exemption reductions on their 1989 tax returns, each child age 2 or older must have a Social Security number. If your child does not have an SS number, you should obtain an SS-5 application form by calling the Social Security Administration number listed in your phone book. The form must be accompanied by an original or certified copy of your child’s birth certificate plus a recent medical or school record to show that your child is not deceased. It takes about two weeks for a number to be issued after you apply. Correction Tracey Urda, one of the scholarship recipients featured in our November 1989 issue, is a member of Branch 71 Duquesne, Pa.
