Donations to WPA Erdély Fund near $4,000

PITTSBURGH — Members and friends of the Association continue to open their hearts and pocketbooks in support of the Hungarian refugees fleeing Romania.

In the month of December, the William Penn’s Erdély Fund received $1,345 in donations. The latest contributions have raised total donations to the fund to more than $3,800.

While Association officials are pleased with the support shown to this effort, they continue to urge all members to contribute.

"Many of the refugees left behind most of the worldly possessions,” said National Secretary E. E. Vargo. "They are in dire need of many basic necessities, such as food, clothing and shelter. Every dollar our members contribute to this effort helps.”

The plight of this latest group of Hungarian refugees came to the world’s attention last year. Tens of thousands of Hungarians living in Romania were forced to leave their homes as the Romanian government demolished entire villages as part of its rural reorganization program.

The vast majority of the refugees fled to Hungary, where the government and churches have

been struggling to meet the needs of the refugees for months.

The relief effort has put a great strain on the Hungarian economy and organizations from around the world have done what they can to ease the burden placed on Hungary.

"We’re trying to do our part to help our Hungarian brothers and sisters in need,” Mr. Vargo said. "We ask our members to

remember the difficulties they or their ancestors may have faced when they came to this country, and to help their fellow Hungarians who now face similar difficulties.”

JOINT SHARE ACCOUNT AGREEMENT

The William Penn Association Federal Credit Union #02661 is hereby authorized to recognize any of the signatures subscribed hereto in the payment of funds or the transaction of any business for this account. The joint owners of this account, hereby agree with each other and with said Credit Union that all sums now paid in on shares, or heretofore or hereafter paid in on shares by any or all of said joint owners to their credit as such joint owners with all accumulations thereon, are and shall be owned by them jointly, with right of survivorship and be subject to the withdrawal or receipt of any of them, and payment to any of them or the survivor or survivors shall be valid and discharge said Credit Union from any liability for such payment. The joint owners also agree to the terms and conditions of the account as established by the credit union from time to time.

Any or all of said joint owners may pledge all or any part of the shares in this account as collateral security to a loan or loans from this credit union.

The right or authority of the credit union under this agreement shall not be changed or terminated by said owners, or any of them except by written notice to said credit union which shall not affect transactions theretofore made.
