Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara Ann House Branch 18 Reporter By now, all the money is in, and we are anxiously waiting for the national bowling tournament to begin. We hope to see everyone at the tournament banquet this year. Good luck to all the bowlers. We sure hope the $10,000 prize is won by one of our lucky benefit members. Our Branch 18 Golf Tournament will be held June 25 at the Riverview Highlands Golf Course in Riverview, Mich. Entry fee is $20.50 per person and includes cart fee. A sign-up sheet for those interested in playing at the tournament will be posted at the club. This marks the tenth year for our golf tournament. Please come and make it a success. If you have any questions contact Branch President Andy Toth. He will be happy to help you. Club Manager Steve Szatmári and his wife Darlene celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary on April 17. Congratulations and many more. We love you. As usual, Manager Szatmári and his crew are very busy. April brought numerous parties and banquets. In between, we had a duck dinner, a prime rib dinner, and (everyone’s favorite) the wooden platter. We hope our members are receiving our newsletter. You wouldn’t want to miss out on any of our goings on. Remember, Mother’s Day isf May 14. Bring mother to our club for dinner and she will receive a carnation and our love. We offer special thanks to National President Stephen G. Danko for the wonderful prizes he donated for our Ladies Auxiliary card party. The prizes were greatly appreciated. We can’t wait to see everyone in Pittsburgh. Good luck to all. Think dollar signs — 10,000 of them. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Peg Sándor Branch 28 Reporter Branch 28 will hold a picnic as part of its regular monthly meeting on May 21 at the home of Steve and Peg Sándor. Members can call Peg at 755-9105 to see what type of food or other items they could bring. All members are welcome to attend. March was a busy month as many area churches held dinners, bingos, festivals and spring bazaars. April started out just as busy. We are getting ready for the national bowling tournament. Unfortunately, our efforts to send teams are not going too well. It seems many of our bowlers are ailing. However, we are sure at least one women’s team from Branch 28 will bowl. Sándor and Mary Tollas recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Joe and Margaret Maty will be celebrating their 44th anniversary. We wish many happy returns to both couples. Emery Magyar is back from Australia and said the climate is really beautiful there. Our deepest sympathies go to the Cibulas family following the recent death of Frank Cibulas. Frank was the brother of the late National Director Zoltán Cibulas, who passed away last September. Mary Burcsak and Peg Sándor are comparing notes about their recent eye surgery. The Budapest Hungarian Symphony Orchestra played at New Wilmington College March 18. The celebration of the Hungarian Independence Day sponsored by the American Federation of Churches and Societies was held March 12. Kalman Magyar will start his Hungarian classes at the American Hungarian Home soon. We sure could use some young members in our branch. We invite all our new members, young adults, and teenagers to join us. Let’s get active. There are a lot of advantages for young people who join the William Penn. Kay Novak and John Kaluczky audited the treasurer’s books for 1988 and found everything to be in good order. And finally, St. George’s Byzantine Catholic Church celebrated its 75th anniversary on April 23. For your insurance needs call our branch coordinator at 792- 8145 or Alan Szabó at 792-7851. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Albert G. Kertesz Branch 249 Vice President On April 1 our branch, in cooperation with our local bowling league members, held the annual banquet to honor those members of the Branch 249 bowling league who qualified for various awards during the season. It was a banner year for the bowlers. The competition between the teams was reflected in the final standings. The 1989 mixed team champs were Bruce Miller, Debbie Miller, Joyce Lower and Woody Brackney. The teams that will be representing Branch 249 at the national bowling tournament have been formed and are anxiously awaiting the trip to Pittsburgh, where they hope to be victorious. At our banquet we also had the pleasure of honoring our 50-year members. Former National Director and current Branch Vice President Albert G. Kertesz presented 50-year pins to Margaret Traynor, Irene Hartings, Helen Simon, Elizabeth Bysak, Charles Sipos, Joseph Palatos, Steven Mózes and Branch Auditor Michael Mayerchak. Branch President Steve Horvath made a special presentation of a 50-year pin and bouquet of flowers to his mother-in-law Margaret Bauer. She was honored for her many years of devoted service in preparing the food for numerous branch functions. The banquet displayed true fraternalism at work on the branch level. We thank all those who brought cookies and contributed in any way to make the dinner successful. Our May branch meeting was held May 1 at St. Stephens Hall. This was our last meeting until we reconvene after the summer break for the September meeting. We wish everyone a pleasant summer. For your life insurance needs call Albert G. Kertesz at 275-6654.
