March 1989, William Penn Life, Page 5 Branch News Branch 18 debutantes (from left) Angela Molnár, Jennifer Szatmári and Deanna Danko were presented recently at the White Rose Ball in Detroit. Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara Ann House Branch 18 Secretary We were very honored to present three young debutantes at the White Rose Ball on Feb. 4 at the Bonnie Brook Country Club. Our three debs were: Deanna Danko, daughter of National President Stephen G. Danko; Angela Molnár, daughter of National Director and Mrs. John Molnár Qohn is also branch vice president); and Jennifer Szatmári, daughter of National Director Steve and Darlene Szatmári (Steve is also Club manager and Darlene is branch fraternal coordinator and director of the Branch 18 dancers). Branch 18 was well represented at the affair. Hungarian music was played by Louis Bodo and his orchestra. Our branch has kept manager Steve and his crew extremely busy this month. Prime rib night was again a sellout, as was our duck dinner. We also had our bi-monthly two-for-one dinner, which is always a huge success. We celebrated our annual Champagne Ball on Feb. 11. Steve and his crew did an excellent job making everyone happy. Both the dinner and service were second to none. Music was provided by Emil Jakob, accompanied by Joe Balint. It is always a treat when Joe performs. On March 3 Bela Balogh and his orchestra were scheduled to perform at the club. Easter Sunday is just around the corner. The club will be open, so don’t forget to make your reservations. Darlene took a group of people to Las Vegas from Feb. 16 to 19. We couldn’t wait to hear the stories, especially those about the ones that got away. National President Danko was in town for our February meeting. He told us about all the new programs available to our members. It was a great pleasure to have him with us. By now you have all received your bowling tournament papers. Get them in the mail as soon as possible. $10,000 will be awarded to any member bowling a perfect game. We sure would like to see that happen. Practice, practice, practice. It was nice to see Julia Danko again. Julia visited from Florida to attend the White Rose Ball at which her granddaughters Deanna and Jennifer were presented. Vice President John Molnár and Branch Treasurer Steve Szalai are vacationing in Florida with their wives. They will travel around the state and stop in to see Julia and Steve Danko along the way. We hope they have a nice time. Agent Ron Perkins is always available to answer questions concerning your insurance needs. Please feel free to call him at 283-6360. Only a few more days to spring. Stay healthy. BRANCH 18 LADIES AUXILIARY By Eleanor Kender, President Congratulations to our 1989 elected officers. All officers remain the same from 1988 with the exception of Mary Gebnar, who resigned after doing an excellent job as auditor. Thanks, Mary, for your many years of service and thanks to all past officers. We welcome Paula Horvath as our new auditor. We also welcome those members who recently joined the auxiliary. Our ladies auxiliary delivered three food baskets to needy families for Christmas. Each family was very grateful to our auxiliary. This was an enriching experience for all who participated. Thank you, ladies, for the food donations and for the special love that came with it. We also received special thanks from the Lincoln Park Mason Lodge for preparing and delivering these baskets to the needy members of their lodge. We also congratulate the new officers of Branch 18, and wish much good health and happiness to all branch members. Branch 27 Toledo, OH By Robert A. Kertesz Branch 249 Vice President Our branch held its annual family Christmas party on Dec. 10. It was well attended by our juvenile members and their parents and grandparents. The festivities began with a delicious meal that was prepared by Margaret Bauer, Betty Mayercsak, Elsie Kender, Alberta Hoffer and Margaret Horvath. We also extend our appreciation to the many ladies who brought cookies. After the meal came the enjoyable program presented by Kurt McGlocklin and his puppets. The wonderful show was appreciated by everyone in attendance. The male chorus, who so melodiously serenaded the attendees last year, added women and children to their group for their performance at this year’s party. Their beautiful singing was accompanied by Albert G. Kertesz Jr. on the organ. Our Santa Claus (Frank Hoffer) made his annual appearance at the proper moment to the delight of the children, and distributed goodies to each child. Everyone present was in a very festive mood, appropriate for the joyous season. We wish to thank the Board of Directors for the financial assistance and extra stocking stuffers they provided. We also thank all those branch members who helped in making our party a success. Prior to the Christmas party, we held our monthly branch meeting at which plans for a fish fry were discussed. The affair will be held in April and will be sponsored jointly by our branch and St. Stephen’s Church. A definite date will be announced soon. We ask for your support of this event. We were also advised that Mrs. Regina Dzsudzsak was in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. We wish her a speedy recovery. The Branch 249 bowling league is past its halfway point of competition and is looking forward to the national tournament in Pittsburgh. Next came the election of officers for 1989. After 20 years of dedicated service as branch president, John Motko chose not to seek reelection. The officers regretfully honored his decision. Elected as branch officers were: Steve Horvath, president; Albert G. Kertesz, first vice president; Frank Hoffer, second vice president; Anne Marie Schmidt, secretary-treasurer; and Michael Mayerchak and Barney Kender, auditors. Mr. Motko was designated branch president emeritus. The officers were installed by former National Director Albert G. Kertesz. Our league victory bowling banquet will be held Saturday, April 1, at St. Stephen’s Hall. Donation for the family style dinner with beverage is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 to 16. All members are invited to attend. For your insurance needs, call Branch Coordinator Albert G. Kertesz at 275-6654. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH The members of Branch 8164 honored the memory of the laté Msgr. Paul L. Richter during their recent branch meeting. Msgr. Richter, the branch’s spiritual advisor, died Feb. 12, 1989 (see 'In Memóriám’ on Page 7). The Rev. Robert Mascolino led the members in prayers for Msgr. Richter. During the business portion of the meeting, Louis Fodor, chairman of the National Auditing Committee, reported on plans being made for the annual Family Festival to be held at the William Penn Home in Wellsburg this August. Reports were also presented by Fannie Cipolla and Albert DiFalco. Branch President Peter Buffone presided over the meeting, which was held at St. Anthony’s rectory. Julia and Angela D’Aurora and Matilda Maier served as hostesses for the meeting. The next branch meeting will be held March 12. Branch 8286 Philadelphia, PA The members of Branch 8286 met Feb. 12 at St. Vincent’s for their regular business meeting. Election of officers for 1989 was held, and all but one of last year’s officers were reelected. The new officer is Branch Treasurer Tamas Bailer. The branch’s records were audited by John Provasnik Jr. and George J. Klinger. The members also voted to have a mass said for all the patriots who have died during the past 140 years. The mass will be held on March 12, the same day we will commemorate the Hungarian Revolution. Father Spaits suggested our branch should help support relief efforts for the Hungarian refugees from Erdély.
