Branch 71 Duquesne, PA Branch 89 Homestead, PA By Ruth D. Toth Branch 89 Reporter The annual family Christmas party for Branch 89 Homestead and Branch 71 Duquesne was held Dec. 4 at the Homeville Fire Hall in West Mifflin, Pa. Each year we surpass the previous year’s attendance. The turnout was great and we could not have asked for better weather. As the children entered the hall they were given refreshments and a bag of goodies. The program began with National Director Elmer Toth welcoming all and introducing the members of the official family who were present: National Secretary and Mrs. E. E. Vargo, National Vice President Zoltán B. Emri, former National Secretary and Mrs. Gus G. Nagy, and former National Director William C. Kohut. Also present were Agency Manager and Mrs. Joseph Barreiro. Mr. Toth also introduced the officers of the branches. The entertainment was provided by the famous magician Harry Albacker who amazed the audience with his many magic tricks. What a treat it was for some of the children to participate in his magic show. Following the show, National Director Roger G. Nagy and his wife Donna joined some of the children to lead everyone in the singing of Christmas carols. As we sang Santa arrived in the hall with a jolly "Ho! Ho! Ho!” and distributed gifts and candy to each child and a box of candy to each adult member. After Santa’s visit a buffet lunch was served. Again, it was another successful family Christmas party that will be remembered by all who were there. Branch 132 South Bend, IN By Frank J. Wukovits, Sr. Branch 132 President The Sixth Annual Membership Dinner Dance held by the William Penn Social Club on Nov. 26 was a great fraternal gathering with members enjoying each other’s company. The usual free cocktail hour preceded a delicious Hungarian style dinner of breaded chicken, parsley potatoes, homemade sausage, hurka and all the trimmings. Dancing followed with music furnished by the Don Sugar Orchestra until midnight. Our annual family Christmas party was held Dec. 17 in the William Penn Hall. It was one of the most successful family Christmas parties we’ve held, with about 200 children and parents in attendance. Branch President Frank J. Wukovits Sr. opened the program welcoming everyone on behalf of the National Directors and Officers and Branch 132 Officers and Directors. The program commenced with the singing of Christmas carols led by Eva Benzur and Charline Bailey with a chorus, who were joined by all the children and their parents. Magician Frank Finley then entertained the audience with an enjoyable show. As more carols were sung, Santa (Steve Pécsi) arrived, greeting each child and presenting each with a box of Christmas candy. The children then had the opportunity to pick a toy of their choice. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed refreshments, potato chips, ice cream, soda pop and other goodies served by Santa’s helpers, namely Eva Benzur, Maria Burus, Goldie Pal, Isabel Hupka, Helen Pécsi, Michele Horvath, Mary Ann Wukovits, Victor Benzur and National Director Frank J. Wukovits Jr. After group picture taking, nice door prizes were won by Ashley Rzepka, Sarah Wuergler and Bob Tanner. The Christmas spirit continued in the evening. Branch 189 Alliance, OH By Marie Duruttya Branch 189 Reporter Branch 189 held its election of officers for 1989 on Dec. 11 at the William Penn Club. Elected to office were: Wilbur "Zack” Taylor, president; Mike Duruttya, secretary-treasurer; and Kenneth Nile and Geraldine Taylor, auditors. The oath of office was given by the branch reporter. Following the installation, a luncheon was prepared and served by Lola Longobardi. The family Christmas party was held Dec. 18. The children sat in wonder of Santa and Mrs. Claus. The looks on the little faces were of anticipation, surprise, and happiness, and there were even a few tears. Santa welcomed the children with love and kindness. After he had the children sing "Jingle Bells” and "Silent Night,” Santa told them the story of Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer. He said because of snow last year, he had to put all his gifts for all good boys and girls into his airplane. Just as he filled his plane, a snowstorm came and — low and behold — the plane would not start. Santa quickly asked Rudolph if he would mind being harnessed up to the front of the plane, because Santa needed his red nose to lead. That is how Santa was able to visit all the boys and girls last year. After games were played, Santa held each child on his lap and listened as they told him what they would like for Christmas. One child actually asked Santa if he could get him his two front teeth for Christmas. Mrs. Claus helped Santa by giving each child a bag of goodies. Our heartfelt thanks go to Denny and Sue Albert for their kindness in making the Christmas party a success by portraying Santa and Mrs. Claus. Thank you also to Wilbur Taylor, Gerry Taylor, Kathy Schafer and Mike Duruttya for their help. The song books and coloring books sent to us by the Home Office were greatly appreciated.
