Continued from Page 4 man of the Association’s Board of Directors, led a group of members and friends who attended the Budapest Brass performance Jan. 18 at the State Theater in New Brunswick. During the holidays, Branch 19 prepared 12 food baskets and donated them to the local Hungarian churches and Salvation Army for distribution to needy families in our area. Now, looking ahead, everyone is invited to attend the dedication and opening of the new Hungarian Heritage Center on Sunday, May 21, at 3:00 p.m. The center is located at 300 Somerset Street in New Brunswick. Later that evening a Gala Dedication Dinner will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. More details on these festivities will appear in our next report. Until then, here are "Seven Things You Will Never Regret”: Feeling reverence for your Maker. Showing kindness to an aged person. Destroying a letter written in anger. Offering an apology that saves a friendship. Stopping a scandal that could wreck a reputation. Taking time to show loved ones consideration. Accepting the judgment of God on any question. Branch 22 Roebling, NJ By Barbara Emri Branch 22 Coordinator "It was the best Christmas party we’ve ever had,” said one of our youngsters as he was leaving the Roebling Rescue Squad Building. Indeed, all present agreed with him as the members of Branch 22 held their annual Christmas party on Dec. 17. Before the party, a short business meeting was held. National Vice President Zoltán B. Emri was present to give the oath of office to the following branch officers for 1989: Dale Cole, president; Dennis Kish, vice president; Barbara Emri, branch coordinator; Jennifer Emri, secretary; and Maria Tomosi and Eva Barota, auditors. Congratulations and best of luck to all the new officers in the coming year. As the children arrived, we started an arts and crafts project making Christmas trees from styrofoam cones, tissue paper and gumdrops. Then, the big moment came when Santa Claus paid us a visit to give presents and other goodies to all the children. Afterwards, it was time for refreshments and some Christmas movies. It was a very enjoyable afternoon for all who attended. The members and officers of Branch 22 wish for all of you much happiness and good health in 1989.____________________ Branch 24 Chicago, IL By Betty Akai Branch 24 Reporter Branch 24 held its annual Christmas party Dec. 11 at the Ivanhoe Park Fieldhouse. I am happy to report our party was a huge success with 30 adults and nine children filling the hall. The children played some games, then all in attendance joined in singing Christmas carols from the lovely carol books donated by the Home Office. A delicious chicken dinner was served. Then Santa Claus arrived with gifts and goodies for the children. Frank Fagyas, one of our social members, did a good job portraying Santa. The officers and members of Branch 24 thank the Home Office for its generous contributions which helped make our party a success. We also wish the Home Office staff and all readers of the William Penn Life happiness, good health and prosperity in 1989. Branch 26 Sharon, PA By Betty Panin Branch 26 President Our family Christmas party was a great success drawing our largest attendance on record. The party was held Dec. 18 at the Holy Trinity Church auditorium in Farrell, Pa. The children were again entertained by Ray the Magician with his magical tricks. Then organist Margaret Rocketa entertained us while the children played games. Stuffed animals donated by Mrs. Rocketa were awarded as prizes to the children. The children then welcomed the arrival of Santa Claus, who distributed gifts and goodies. Bill Puhala did a great job portraying Santa Claus. Afterwards, a delicious buffet meal of kolbász and sauerkraut and pastries was served and enjoyed by all. The officers and members thank the Home Office for their financial support of our party. We also thank those members who contributed to our branch’s participation in the Holiday Basket program, providing canned goods and other items for needy families. The officers and members of Branch 26 wish everyone prosperity and good health in 1989. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Gabe Nameth Branch 28 Coordinator Our Christmas party, held Dec. 10 at the American Hungarian Home, was without a doubt the best ever. Santa Claus (Steve Novak) and Mrs. Claus (Ruth Fabian) were super. Steve and Ruth are naturals for the job. They passed out the packages to the children which contained coloring books, crayons, balloons, and carol books furnished by the Home Office. Each package also contained candy bars, popcorn balls, candy canes, and Christmas cookies. Each child also received a gift of money. The entertainment started with the showing of enjoyable video cartoons and ended with a Christmas carol sing-along. A buffet luncheon followed. We thank all those who helped with the party. Special thanks go to Kathy Novak, daughter of Branch Vice President Steve Novak, and to Mrs. Helen Bodnar for selling raffle tickets. We also thank the Home Office for its generous donation without which we could not have done it. We only wish as many members would attend our regular meetings as attended our party. Our meetings are held the third Sunday of each month at the home of Branch President Steve Sándor, 133Struthters-Coitsville Road, phone 755-9105. Recently elected as branch officers for 1989 were: Steve Sándor, president; Steve Novak, vice president; Irene A. Nemeth, secretarytreasurer; and John Kaluczky and Kay Novak, auditors. Now, a sad note. Our branch reporter, Helen Kaluczky, resigned. We hope you will reconsider, Helen. We need you. You will be hard to replace. For your insurance needs call Branch Coordinator Gabe Nameth at (216) 792-8145 or Alan A. Szabó at (216) 792-7851. Now with all the holidays behind us, we shall start working on getting some bowling teams and golf teams together. We wish happiness, prosperity and good health to all in 1989. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Barbara Kapinus Branch 34 Coordinator A super, fun-filled family Christmas party was held for Branch 34 members on Dec. 10 at St. Ann’s Hungarian Church Hall. After feasting on hoagies, snacks and a delicious assortment of homemade cookies, everyone enjoyed the hobo/magician who performed many interesting tricks and coaxed some members in the audience to serve as his assistants. A big hit with the children was the face painting. But an even bigger hit was Santa Claus, who arrived on time with gifts of candy and toys for the children. His appearance concluded an enjoyable afternoon for all who attended. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ By Ernest Mozer Branch 51 Coordinator On Dec. 4, Branch 51 held its annual election of officers for 1989. Later that day, our family Christmas party was held at the American-Hungarian Citizens Club in Garfield, N.J. All our officers were reelected for another year. They are: Arthur Barillo, president; Joseph Baumgartner, vice president; Frank Zimmerman, treasurer; Ernest J. Mozer, secretary; and Andrew Nemeth, auditor. President Barillo expressed his sincere thanks to all present for their unselfish help and devotion during the past year in all branch activities. It was a pleasure to again serve as president, he said. Our Christmas party began with greetings from Branch Coordinator Ernest Mozer, who then introduced the branch officers to the members. In attendance was Stephen M. Gulla, our local agency manager. Mr. Gulla expressed his pleasure at being at his first William Penn family Christmas party. He said it was very nice to see everyone enjoying themselves at a real fraternal affair. He also said that anyone with questions about their insurance coverage should not hesitate to call him at (201) 316-0464. The party started with entertainment by Mike the Magician. Both children and adults were asked to help out in many of his acts. Everyone was held spellbound and a very good time was had by all. Everyone was asked to join in to sing Christmas carols from the song books provided by the Home Office. Under the direction of Christine Mozer many songs were sung. During the final song, "Jingle Bells,” Santa Claus (Andy Nemeth) suddenly appeared on the scene with his merry "Ho! Ho! Ho!” The young children just stared when he appeared, and when they realized who it was they were overjoyed. Santa then had the children sit on his lap, and asked each various questions about themselves and what they would like for Christmas. He gave each child a gift. At the conclusion of Santa’s visit, President Barillo asked the membership to stay for refreshments and to continue to enjoy themselves with their children, friends, and relatives. Again, many thanks to the Home Office for all its assistance in making this affair the success that it always is each year. Branch 59 Windber, PA By Dorothy Gall Branch 59 Coordinator William Penn Branch 59 held its annual Christmas party on Dec. 11. The children welcomed Santa with Christmas carols and bubbled with laughter as Santa talked with them and gave out treats. All who attended the party had a nice time socializing and enjoying the refreshments. Paul Marone Jr. was the winner of a fruit basket donated by Riverside Market of Windber. A special thank you goes to Rose Orris, Ann Demko, Margaret Marone, and Barbara Homer for their help in preparing the food and decorating the hall.
