The members of Branch 8057 convey their condolensces to fellow member Margaret Bruno on the loss of her dear father. To all of our fellow William Penn members, we wish you a very Happy New Year. Branch 8075 Wilkes-Barre, PA Branch 8075 held its regular monthly meeting on Nov. 17 at the home of Branch Vice President Charles Dress. The members discussed several letters received at the branch: one from National Secretary E. E. Vargo pertaining to branch family Christmas parties; another from WMEP-TV Channel 16 on its Feed-a-Friend project; and one from H&R Block on free ta> services. Branch 8095 Uniontown, PA Branch 8095 held its annual Christmas party on Dec. 13 at Caesar’s. Our honored guest, Glenn Johnson, spoke to us on insurance. Entertainment was provided by Bruno Garden and everyone joined in a group sing-a-long and an exchange of presents. All in all, it was an enjoyable party. Branch 8113 Lucinda, PA The members of Branch 8113 met Dec. 8 to discuss the results of the turkey raffle and shooting match held in November. All agreed that the proceeds from these activities should be donated to the local Parent Teachers Organization. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA At the Nov. 17 meeting of Branch 8114, Gerald Bauer, chairman of the clothing drive, reported that 48 boxes of clothing weighing 1,950 pounds were collected and delivered to Erie, Pa., to be distributed to the needy. The annual Christmas party for members and their families was held on Dec. 15. A report on the party will appear in the next issue. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA Branch 8121 held its annual Christmas party and installation of officers for the coming year on Dec. 2 at St. Marys School. During the business portion of the gathering, the branch voted to make a donation to St. Marys Church. The money will be used to purchase food baskets for needy families of the parish at Christmas. The members also voted to not hold meetings the first three months of 1988 because of the weather conditions. Members then signed Christmas cards which were sent to the residents of the William Penn Home in Wellsburg, W.Va. Father Damien, our branch’s spiritual advisor, installed the branch officers for 1988. Our Christmas party followed, featuring a lunch prepared by the ladies and gentlemen of the branch. We exchanged gifts, and all received a door prize and favors. The favors were made by Branch President Mary Lou Spomer. Branch 8149 Swissvale, PA On Dec. 14 Branch 8149 held its Officers of Branch 8020 McKees Rocks, Pa., hold turkeys the branch presented to the local Senior Citizens Center. Paul Richter, spiritual advisor for Branch 8164 Steubenville, Ohio. annual Christmas party and election of branch officers at the Waverly Station Restaurant. The branch appointed two members to take gifts from the branch to the residents of the William Penn Home for the Elderly. We also presented our pastor, his two assistants, the church and the school with gifts of money. We use the school as a location for our monthly meetings. Branch 8155 Steelton, PA Branch 8155 met Dec. 4 at St. John the Evangelist Church and elected its new officers for 1988. The new officers are: Steve Sipos, president; Joe Donato, vice president; William Miller, secretary/treasurer; Steve Taljan and Mike Rowman, auditors; and Father Augustine Giella, chaplain. Recently, branch members painted the ceiling tiles in St. John’s School and waxed the floor in the cafeteria. The branch also presented a Christmas basket to a needy family in the parish and sent get well cards to five parishoners. The branch donated $100 to the church’s Christmas collection and gave each altar boy a Christmas gift of $5. The branch also sponsored a Christmas dinner for local senior citizens on Dec. 6. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH The members of Branch 8164 extend their congratulations to their fellow member and Branch Chaplain Msgr. Paul Richter, who recently received the Poverello Medal from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Msgr. Richter received his award at the university’s Founders’ Day Dinner and Awards ceremony held Dec. 5. The Poverello Medal is the highest non-academic award conferred by the university. Named in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the medal is given to someone who exhibits the spirit of charity which filled the life of the saint. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Msgr. Richter was ordained in 1932 and appointed to St. Anthony’s parish in Steubenville where he performed his priestly ministry until his retirement in 1983. His dedication and faith guided his parish through the Great Depression and led eventually to an impressive growth in membership and the construction of a church, rectory, convent and school. Branch 8164 is proud of Msgr. Richter’s accomplishments, and is honored to have him as a member of our branch. Branch 8222 Pittsburgh, PA The members of our branch were happy to hear from Branch Secretary Eileen Wenzel that Father Wersing is doing fine and that we should see him in the spring. At our Dec. 6 meeting, our branch agreed to donate six baskets of food to the needy and collected contributions for the beauty shop at the St. Joseph Home. Our branch members volunteered 220 hours at the Home during November. After the business portion of the meeting, our members gathered for the annual Christmas party. Branch 8243 Wellsburg, WV At its Nov. 17 meeting, Branch 8243 welcomed a new member, Mrs. Barbara Kovács. The branch also voted to contribute $25 to the William Penn Home Cable Television System Campaign. In an effort to increase attendance at branch meetings, all Branch 8243 members will be contacted prior to the Jan. 19 meeting. This meeting will include a tour of the Home and mansion, plus refreshments. Branch 8321 Windber, PA The members of Branch 8321 gathered recently for a memorial Mass and breakfast held in honor of deceased branch members. The branch is now making final preparations for the clothing drive to be held in January. Organizers for the drive report that more people will be helping this year than last year. Branch 8326 Smithton, PA Branch 8326 held its annual Christmas party on Dec. 12 and a penance service luncheon on Dec. 19 at St. Timothy’s Church. Branch members recently donated food items for a holiday basket which was given to a needy family. The branch also will donate to a memorial fund in honor of Father James Miller, spiritual advisor for the former Southwest Penn District.
