Wukovits, Sr. Postmaster: If undelivered, please send form 3579 to: William Penn Association 709 Brighton Road Pittsburgh, PA 15233 PITTSBURGH — Twenty young members of the William Penn will participate in a very special journey this month, one that could change the course of their lives. The young members, ranging in age from 9 to 14, will be spending three weeks in Hungary learning about the history, language, and culture of the homeland of their ancestors. The group will depart from the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport on July 3 and arrive in Hungary the following day. They will spend the first two weeks of their stay at the Fonyod Camp on the shores of Lake Balaton where the children will attend informal classes with Hungarian children. They then will depart on a one-WEIRTON, WV - Eight students recently completed a special course in the Hungarian language taught by Louis A. Fodor, chairman of the Association’s National Auditing Committee. The classes were held each Tuesday evening at the Mackey facilities of the Belmont Technical College branch in Martins Ferry, Ohio. The nine-week course offered the students a total of 27 hours of instruction in basic Hungarian. The course started with practice in the ABC sounds, then progressed through reading, writing, and speaking. We would like to share with all our readers a letter written by Joseph J. Miller, past supreme president of the former Catholic Knights of St. George, to Sister M. Hildburg, MSC, of the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. This letter expresses the feelings many of our members share about the good work performed by the Sisters at our Home for the elderly. Dear Sister Hildburg: week tour of Hungary’s historic sites before their return home. What the children experience in those three weeks will affect them for years to come. "Children in that age group have few, if any, preconceived ideas about the ways things should be. They will get a taste of what the world really is: a place full of people who are very different — yet at the same time, very similar — to you and me,” said National President Stephen G. Danko. "They will also come back with a stronger sense of who they are. I think they will realize that they are not just Americans, but that they are Americans of Hungarian descent. "What they experience on this The course also covered topics in Hungarian history, geography, music, customs and other related subjects. Mr. Fodor offers the course twice each year: once in the spring and again in the fall. Those graduating from this spring’s class were Elizabeth Petras, Margaret László, Mary Jeffers, Katalin Tomlinson, Elizabeth Toth, Barbara Kovács, Mark Farmer, and Ron Strum. For more information on future courses in the Hungarian language, contact Mr. Fodor at 328 North 10th St., Weirton, W.Va. 26062, or call (304) 748- 5505. It is with mixed feelings of both sentiment and sadness that I share my thoughts and my good wishes with you today, the 65th anniversary of the MSC apostolaié at the William Penn Home in Wellsburg, West Virginia. It was on May 8, 1923 that the four pioneer Sisters arrived at the then Knights of St. George Home to begin their ministry to the residents of our Home. Certainly our Home and our members have been the rich benetrip will help them appreciate their Hungarian heritage and, as they become adults, make them eager to pass on that heritage to their own children,” he said. This special trip was made possible through the financial support of the William Penn. Half of each child’s expenses will be paid for by the Association. "We are extremely pleased to be offering this opportunity to our young members,” President Danko said. "It is part of our Association’s on-going effort to keep the traditions and culture of Hungary alive here in America.” The young members who will be taking this special journey to Hungary are: Nicole E. Bakas of North Olmstead, Ohio; Bridget, Michelle and Peter Bandy of Taylor, Mich.; Elyse Debar of PITTSBURGH — The land tour package for "Hungary Tour ’88” has been cancelled, but members may still register to fly to Hungary this summer with the William Penn. This year’s group will depart for Hungary on Aug. 15 and return from the "Land of the Magyars” on Sept. 8.
