Page 8, William Penn Life, June 1988 Branch News Branch 8020 McKees Rocks, PA By William Arbanas Branch 8020 President The Robinson Developmental Center for Retarded Adults recently honored our Association and Branch 8020 McKees Rocks. Before a nice turnout of representatives from many organizations and public officials, National Secretary E. E. Vargo received a beautiful plaque and many words of appreciation for the support our society has given to the residents of the Robinson Center. Branch 8020 President Bill Arbanas was also honored for his 13 years of service on the Center’s board of directors and for all his hard work in gaining support for the Center’s efforts. Following the presentations, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal. The event was held at the Pittsburgh Airport Hilton Hotel. Branch 8057 Verona, PA By Betty Tuccillo Branch 8057 Secretary Branch 8057 met for its regular business meeting on May 11 at St. Joseph’s activity hall. Attendance was lower than usual because many members were busy preparing for their children’s first communions, graduations or other ceremonies. All our hearts lit up when we saw two special guests walk into our meeting — Dominic La Verde and Lee Ann Shively of the Pittsburgh-East sales agency. It is always a great pleasure to have them with us. The women were treated with belated Mother’s Day flowers and birthday wishes were extended to our members born in May — Josephine Ciorra and Rose Cineffe — and those bom in June — Vera Geiser, Carmela Esposito and Connie Bonorata. Our members also wish a speedy recovery to all our shutins. May God restore them to good health again. Our next meeting will be held at noon Wednesday, June 8, at the home of Branch President Mary Dialoiso, 633 Second Ave., Verona. After the business portion of the meeting, we will have a covered dish lunch. There will be no meetings in either July or August. Branch 8075 Wilkes-Barre, PA The members of Branch 8075 met April 19 at the home of Branch Vice President Charles Dress to take a look back at some local history. The focus of everyone’s attention was the early years of St. Boniface Church and School. We reviewed many pictures of the church and school, some from as far back as 1893. We also shared pictures and memories of St. Boniface’s Golden Jubilee in 1946. Branch 8113 Lucinda, PA The members of Branch 8113 met April 19 and decided to make some needed repairs to the playground equipment at the local school. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA Branch 8114 held its regular business meeting on April 19 at which it was reported that 210 men had attended the annual Men’s Breakfast on March 27. Tunch Ilkin of the Pittsburgh Steelers professional football team was the guest speaker at the breakfast. The annual Ladies’ Breakfast was to be held May 1, with the men serving the meal. The branch also recendy donated $ 100 to a local school to help finance a class trip. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA We had a good turnout for our annual Communion Mass and Breakfast held May 4. The mass was held at St. Marys Church followed by breakfast at the Knights of Columbus hall. As busy as our priests are at St. Marys, Father Damien was able to attend the breakfast and shared a nice talk about increasing membership. We have already made arrangements for next year’s mass and breakfast. We purchased material from St. Joseph’s Sisters for our favors for 1988 and 1989. Branch 8155 Steelton, PA At the May 4 meeting of Branch 8155, our members decided to donate $50 to the Penticost collection for seminarians and sick and retired priests. Two of our members have taken on the task of scrubbing and waxing the floor in the cafeteria at St. John the Evangelist Church. Our members are also planning other maintenance projects at the church. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH The members of Branch 8164 met May 8 to discuss the upcoming Family Festival at the William Penn Home in Wellsburg, W. Va. Louis A. Fodor, chairman of the National Auditing Committee, talked about the plans for this year’s festival and asked for volunteers to help work at the festival. Members Sebastian Grossi and Albert DiNicola will be running the horse race game and Albert DiFalco will again take care of the parking of automobiles and buses. The meeting began with mass at St. Anthony Church, followed by a breakfast served by Matilda Maier and Julia D’Aurora. Branch President Peter Buffone presided over the meeting. Reports were given by Fannie Cipolla, Albert DiFalco and Michael Vecchione. In honor of Mother’s Day, the refreshment committee served special heart-shaped cinnamon rolls. The Rev. Walter Heinz congratulated all the women on their special day. He also reported on the diocese/parish share campaign, which he said is moving along very well. The Rev. Robert Mascolino was also a guest. Msgr. Paul L. Richter closed the meeting with a prayer. The next branch meeting will be held in September. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. Branch 8286 Philadelphia, PA Branch 8286 welcomed eight new members at its monthly meeting held May 15 at St. Vincent’s Church. Members made plans for a special June 5 celebration marking Father Spaits’ 45th anniversary in the priesthood. At our April 17 meeting, we welcomed seven new members. At this meeting, our members agreed to order 100 of the new Respect for Life roses and to donate $100 to the Carmalite Sisters for construction of a new building at the Sacred Heart Manor in Germantown, Pa.
