June 1988, William Penn Life, Page 7 Branch News Branch 249 Coordinator Albert G. Kertest congratulates branch member Katherine Kennedy on her selection as "1988 Miss World A’Fair.” Members of Branch 800 Altoona, Pa. enjoy a leisurely cruise on the waters of Racetown Lake aboard the Racetown Bell. Continued from Page 6 the Hungarian costume fashion show that the D.O.E. (Daughters of Elizabeth) held recently at St. Stephen’s. The models and gowns were all so beautiful, and Kathy helped focus our attention on the outstanding embroidery and the work that went into these fashions. W e learned a little more about our Hungarian heritage as each gown’s embroidery design distinguishes the village of its origin. The Daughters of Elizabeth are to be commended for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon. And for your information— Branch 28 meetings are held the third Sunday of the month at the home of Steve and Peg Sándor at 2:30 p.m. Why not come and join us? Branch 71 Duquesne, PA Matthew Kalo Jr., a member of our Branch 71, was recently inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society. Matthew is a student at John Carroll University and will be doing research work this summer at the University of Alabama. If your game is golf, then you should enter the Fifth Annual William Penn Association National Golf Tournament to be held July 23 at the Brunswick Hills Golf Club in Brunswick, Ohio. For those that are not athletically skilled, there are various types of social functions and activities to partake in, usually for worthy causes. Recently we had the pleasure of attending such an affair in New Brunswick, N.J., sponsored by the New Jersey branches. It was a well-organized event with many members and friends enjoying the delicious dinner, entertaining program and congenial atmosphere. A well-known and popular area vocalist, Frank Mikisits of Bethlehem, will be honored at a testimonial dinner-dance on Sunday, June 19, at the Northampton Hungarian Club. Music will be provided by Steve Turoczi’s Continentals. Donation is $12 per person. For reservations, call (215)866-5172. Our most sincere sympathy and condolences go to the Kennedy and Alper families on the sudden passing of a loving husband and father. Also to Clara S. Fennesy and family whose brother, Louis Sima, passed away recently. Clara is our branch’s recording secretary and a longtime member. Have a healthy and pleasant summer. Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA Branch Coordinator Bill Kovach and his wife Caroline were privileged to be in attendance at the recent dinner-dance held in New Brunswick, N.J., honoring our Association’s national leaders from New Jersey. A number of Branch 159 members were to attend the 45th national bowling tournament in South Bend, Ind.
