Branch 27 Toledo, OH_______ By Mary Ivancso Branch 27 Coordinator Dec. 5 was a day to remember for the juvenile members of Branch 27. Our Christmas party, held in the home of National Director Stephen J. Ivancso Sr. and wife Mary, was a huge success. Huge 32-inch stockings, filled with toys, candy and other goodies, were given to every child by Santa (played by none other than Director Ivancso). Hot dogs, chips and refreshments were enjoyed by the children and parents alike. Photographer Stephen Ivancso Jr. took pictures of each child with Santa. Our thanks to Vice President Dorothy Feyes, Auditor Jula Feyes and Peggy Ivancso for their work in the kitchen. The following were re-elected at our annual election of branch officers held Dec. 6: Maggie Ivancso, president; Dorothy Feyes, vice president; Mary Ivancso, secretary/treasurer; and Julius Feyes and Stephen Ivancso Jr., auditors. Director Ivancso swore in the new officers. Our deepest sympathy goes to the families of Charles Aslos and Margaret Halasz. Rose Bodnar and Mary Kepes vacationed in Chicago. They dined at The Bakery, Chef Szatmari’s restaurant. Rose went back the next day for more hortobay pancakes. The newest member of Branch 27 is Ronald Reeder Jr. Our congratulations to the parents. Parents and grandparents: the William Penn is offering a oncein-a-lifetime term life insurance policy to those from age 0 to 21. Imagine, for only $25.00 a year, you can insure your child for $20,000.00. Contact Mary Ivancso at 691- 9641 for all the details. Elmer George, treasurer; Betty Lacatos, sunshine; and Albert Hudak, nominating committee chairman. Branch 28 officers for 1988 are: Steve Sándor, president; Steve Novak, vice president; Irene A. Nemeth, secretary/treasurer; Kay Novak, John Kaluczky and Frank Schauer, auditors; and Helen Kaluczky, reporter. Our appreciation goes to Eugene and Frances Sakasits for their participation in the St. Vincent DePaul fundraiser on Dec. 5. The tidy sum of $9,500 raised made a lot of needy people in our area very happy this past holiday season. Eugene and Frances head up St. Stephen of Hungary’s St. Vincent DePaul Society and do a wonderful job of assembly and distribution. Ditto to Peg and Steve Sándor for their help in our branch’s collection and distribution of holiday baskets. God bless them and all the contributors, including our own Association. Our branch Christmas party was a huge success thanks to all of the officers and, of course, those wonderful volunteers. We believe we had a first this year — a joint appearance by Santa Claus (Steve Novak) and Mrs. Santa Claus (Ruth Fabian). They were both naturals for their parts and received a lot of favorable comments on what a good job they did. The children enjoyed watching cartoons, singing Christmas carols, and receiving a bag of goodies. Refreshments were Sloppy Joes, potato chips, pickles, cupcakes, coffee and pop. We even had some insurance business transacted at the party by Branch 28 Coordinator Gabe Nameth. Those of you who couldn’t get to the party can contact Gabe at his home anytime (216-792-8145) or at our branch meetings. Thank you also to Leslie Wash and Charles Szekely. You did all that you could in the past years as officers of Branch 28. We appreciate you and wish you well. To all you shut-ins and those who are sick and in pain, may God be with you to ease some of the suffering and loneliness. And to all, peace in this new year of 1988. Branch 44 Akron, OH After a number of years, Branch 44 re-established itself as an active branch with a program on Nov. 22 at Holy Trinity Church in Barberton, Ohio. A slide show program on Hungarian subjects was presented, followed by a Hungarian folk song sing-a-long and social. The Christmas party was held Dec. 6 at the Hungarian-American Club in Akron. Members renewed old acquaintances and children enjoyed playing with their gifts, which were distributed by Alex Darago and John Bradach. A lovely Christmas buffet was served to the guests and the best treat of all was our William Penn Children’s Chorus, under the direction of Elizabeth Darago, who led us in Christmas carol singing. The election of new officers also took place at this meeting. National Secretary E. E. Vargo installed the new officers: Elizabeth Darago, president; John Bradach, vice president and auditor; Maralyn Darago, treasurer; and Irene Beres, auditor. Their office is located at 163 Maple Ave., Wallington, N.J. 07057, phone (201) 778-2909. They will be glad to hear from you. Our party started with entertainment by Rainbow the Clown. Members of the audience, both young and old, helped him in many of his acts of magic which held £ veryone spellbound. A real good time was had by all present. As everyone was singing Christmas carols from the song books provided by the Home Office and under the direction of Christine Mozer, Santa (Ernie Mozer) suddenly appeared on the scene with his merry "ho-ho-ho”. The young children just stared in amazement and were overjoyed to see him. Santa then had the children sit on his lap, one by one, and asked each what they wanted for Christmas. On departing he gave each child a gift. President Barillo concluded the the program by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. He also thanked the Home Office for their financial support of the party and invited everyone to stay afterwards for refreshments.
