Page 8, William Penn Life, April 1988 Symposium From Page 1 training opportunity in North America. Topics will include goal setting, motivation, fund raising and community relations. Providing much of the music at the workshops and each Táncház will be the band Tilinko from Szekesfehervar, Hungary. This group has earned an international reputation for the excellence of their presentation and the authenticity of their styling. The members of Tilinko will also lead instrumental and vocal workshops each day of the symposium. Musical director for the symposium will be Hungary’s most famous folk musician, Bela Halmos. He is scheduled to teach string music, lead Táncház playing and preside over the early morning bathers club. Although the dance and music instruction will be aimed at those on an intermediate/advanced level, the teaching will always start with basics, allowing relative beginners the chance to profit from the sessions. Participants in any of the workshops will be eligible to receive two college credits from Portland State University. The symposium’s activities will be centered in the camp’s lodge, located on a plateau with a majestic view of the Ohio River and three states. Recreational facilities include a 32- by 62-foot inground swimming pool, pingpong tables and hiking trails throughout the William Penn Home’s 535 acres. Indoor lodgings are limited, but organizers say participants may find it fun to bring their camping gear and pitch camp right outside the dance and dining hall. The hall contains complete toilet and washing facilities. Fees for the symposium will be as follows: Workshop participants camping in tent: $255/person ($230 for AHFC members). Non-participants: $170. Group of six or more: $230/person (U.S. groups), $255/ person (Canadian groups). Indoor lodging: $295/person double occupancy, $345/person single occupancy. Children under 6 not occupying own bed: free. The camp is limited to 100 active participants. A deposit of $25 per person is due May 1 with full payment due June 1. Reservations (see form below) and deposits should be sent to AHFC/Symposium, P.O. Box 262, Bogota, N.J. 07603, phone (201)836-4869.
