Branch 15 Chicago, IL By Frank Balogh Branch 15 President The Christmas party that Branch 15 held jointly with the members of St. Stephen King of Hungary Church and the Chicago Hungarian Scout Troop on Dec. 20 turned out very well. There were 22 children with their parents among the approximately 60 people who attended. Each child received a stocking filled with candy. There were also plenty of refreshments and delicious homemade cookies and pastries. Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara House Branch 18 Secretary The members of the Branch 18 Ladies Auxiliary and their guests enjoyed a lovely Christmas party held at the branch on Dec. 19. Again Pista Szatmári outdid himself. The food was great. The ladies each received a pocket organizer as their Christmas present. We sang Christmas carols in English and Hungarian. The caroling was enhanced by our performing artist guest Tim Lowzewski. For those of you that don’t know Tim, he is the organist at the Hungarian Reformed Church. Thank you, again, Tim. Your music is beautiful. The ladies held their election of officers on Dec. 21. The rewly elected officers are: Eleanor Kendor, president; Barbara House, vice president; Margaret New, treasurer; Rose Krumm, secretary; and Mary Gebnar and Mary Boka, auditors. Instead of sponsoring our annual bingo at the Veterans Hospital, the ladies sent money instead. This enabled the patients to buy the little things they needed. Remember members, the ladies auxiliary meets on the third Monday of every month. December, January, and February meetings are held at 1:00 p.m. for those of you that don’t like to be out after dark. The remaining months are held at 7:00 p.m. Please feel free to come and join us. You will be made to feel very welcome. Club Manager Steve Szatmári reported December was a very busy month. Besides numerous members just getting together to celebrate the holidays, we had a great amount of holiday parties booked. The decorating committee again did a great job in making the club look very festive. Thank you, you did a beautiful job, as usual. New Year’s Eve was celebrated with a different type band. They were called the Sudden Change and that they were. They played all types of American music. During the breaks they played Hungarian tapes. That way everyone was pleased. I can personally vouch for them. They were great and everyone had a great time. We are busily planning for our annual Champagne Ball. It will be held on March 5. Please call Steve at the club to reserve your table. This is one of the best loved affairs. Her charm and smile melt everyone she meets. She is a typical photo "ham.” "Tira”, as she is called by her family and friends, is your average, everyday "bundle of trouble and love”. Her days are filled with exploration, adventure and of course, play. She is the daughter of Lori L. Schneider. Branch 24 Chicago, IL By Betty Akai Branch 24 Reporter Branch 24 held its family Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 13, 1987, at the Ivanhoe Park Field House. Eleven children and a great group of grown ups filled the hall. The children sang Christmas carols and played games. Two of the children provided the entertainment. Jason Akai, 12, played the cornet while Micky Akai, 10, played his clarinet. Santa arrived with gifts and goodies for the children. John Akai, grandson of Charles and Betty Akai, did a great job portraying Santa. A delicious dinner was served to all present. The officers and members of Branch 24 thank the Home Office for its generous contribution to make this party a huge success. Also, the officers and members wish all a most prosperous and healthy new year. Branch 26 Sharon, PA By Betty Panin Branch 26 President The annual family Christmas party was held on Saturday Dec. 19, at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church auditorium. Everyone was welcomed by Steve Emery, branch coordinator. A lunch buffet of kolbász, pastries and refreshments was served by committee members Julie Dobay, Mary Bowser and Mary Ann Davis. The entertainment was again by Ray the Magician, who kept the children thrilled by his magical tricks. The highlight of the afternoon was the arrival of Santa Claus, portrayed by Bill Puchala, who listened to the children whisper what they wanted for Christmas. He then handed the children money gifts, coloring books and treats and gave calendars to the parents.
