For many, the first reminders of this fact come in the weeks following the holiday, when the bills for their generosity appear in their mailboxes. The William Penn Association Federal Credit Union now offers its members a way to avoid the post-Christmas bill-paying blues. The Home Office recently announced that the Credit Union has opened a Christmas Club through which members can save funds to meet their holiday expenses next year. "For years, Christmas clubs have been a popular method of saving for Christmas expenses,” said National President Stephen G. Danko. "We hope that all of our credit union members will take advantage of this new financial service we’re offering.” The Christmas Club officially opened Nov. 1 and will run through Oct. 31,1989. However, members may join the club at any time. There is no minimum deposit required to join the Christmas Club, and there are no limits as to how much a member can invest in his or her club account. Once enrolled in the club, members can make additional deposits whenever they want. "They can make deposits on a monthly basis, weekly, bi-weekly, whenever,” President Danko said. Interest on Christmas Club savings will be awarded annually at the same rate paid by the Credit Union on share accounts. On Oct. 31, 1989, the day the 1989 Christmas Club closes, members can choose to withdraw all of the savings or carry over some or even all of their club savings into the 1990 Christmas Club. Current Credit Union members who wish to join the 1989 Christmas Club can fill out the Christmas Club application on Page 6 and send it, along with their initial deposit, to the Home Office. Those who wish to join the Christmas Club but are not members of the Credit Union, must first join the Credit Union by completing the Credit Union application on Page 6 and sending it with the required initial deposit and entrance fee to the Home Office. Membership in the Credit Union is open only to Pennsylvania residents. Rates lowered for spring Caribbean cruise PITTSBURGH — Because of the enthusiastic response to the William Penn’s Caribbean Cruise ’89, the cost to those wishing to join the cruise has been lowered, the Home Office has announced. Members and friends of the Association can now join the cruise at a cost of $1,226 per person for an inside cabin or $1,313 per person for an outside cabin. The new prices are about five percent lower than the originally announced prices. "These new, even lower rates mean that each person who joins our cruise will now save between $367 and $395 off the regular rates,” said National Vice President Zoltán B. Emri. The classes of cabins available to William Penn cruise participants is the same as before, Mr. Emri said. "But because of the good response we have received, we had more leverage in negotiating a better price.” The cabins will be located on the fourth and fifth decks of the eight-deck msCarlaCosta, the Italian ship selected for the cruise. The seven-day cruise will run from Saturday, April 22, to Saturday, April 29. Departure will be from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Air transportation to and from San Juan is included in the cruise price. Members and guests can fly at no additional cost from one of 60 U.S. cities, including Boston, Buffalo, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Detroit, Hartford, Newark, New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Those coming from the southwestern and western U.S. will be charged a small add-on fare. The cost also includes ocean transportation and accommodations, all meals and entertainment aboard ship, ground transfers, port taxes, international departure tax and airport security charge. The price does not include costs for shore excursions, phone calls, laundry or valet service, wine, liquors, beverages and tips. From San Juan, guests will sail to five of the most bewitching southernmost ports of the Caribbean, experiencing a panorama of delights set against spectacular backgrounds. The cruise will dock first at Curacao where guests will be able to tour the island’s famous shopping paradise. The next stop will be at glamourous, cosmopolitan Caracas, Venezuela. The CarlaCosta will then sail to the beautiful island of Grenada for a day at its picturesque harbor. Then it’s on to the tropical reefs of Martinique. On the final full day of the cruise, guests will arrive in St. Thomas where participants can enjoy a tour of Bluebeard’s Castle See 'Cruise’ Page 2 Inside_____ ■ Member recalls the Christmas of 1944......................Page 2. ■ Vargo elected to state fraternal presidency................Page 3. ■ The latest news and notes from our branches ....
