Page 16, William Penn Life, July 1987 The members of the Branch 18 Hungarian Dancers of Detroit, Mich. From Page 1 Dancers Now, the Branch 18 dancers have the chance to raise their skills to a higher level. At the invitation of the Magyarok Vilagszovetsege (the World Federation of Hungarians), the group leaves July 10 for Velem, Hungary, near the Austrian-Hungarian border. The group has been invited to the camp before, but they were never able to raise the necessary funds to make the trip, Mrs. Szatmári said. This year, with the help of a donation from the Association, the group was able to raise enough money to pay for their air fare and camp fees. The group itself held a bake sale, card party and concert of Hungarian performers to earn money for the trip. At the camp, the dancers will experience eight days of intensive studying, and evaluation under the expert supervision oftheHungarian State Folk Ensemble. The dancers will also have the chance to display their talent in front of a Hungarian audience. Even now, the group is still hard at work preparing for their 15 minute program. But studying and performing in Hungary is only half the reason why the dancers are so excited. In their spare time they will be able to meet and make friends with dancers from all over the world. Many will also stay in Hungary an additional three weeks after the camp, visiting relatives and the sites of Hungary. "This is our group’s first trip like this,” Mrs. Szatmári said. "It will give the dancers a chance to know a little more about their ancestry.” Even Mrs. Szatmári herself, who has visited Hungary four previous times, is excited about this journey. "I always enjoy going there. There’s always something new.” What may be new this time is that the group has made the necessary journey before it even departs for Hungary. Officers children, Deana, 18, and Derek, 3. Miss Furedy’s election as national treasurer is the culmination of her 45-year career with the Association. She brings to her new position a wealth of professional experience and a record of suprerior job performance within the Association in virtual every phase of administration and accounting. She was first employed as a secretary by the former Workingman’s Sick Benefit Federation in 1941. After Workingman’s merged with the Verhovay Aid Association, she became assistant to the national controller in 1948. She was promoted to the position of administrative assistant in 1966. Her hard work and knowledge of the Association’s workings earned her the position of director of internal operations in 1983. She was named administrative assistant to the national president in 1984. A native of Pittsburgh, Miss Furedy graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1941 and attended the Frick Business School and University of Pittsburgh. She has also attended a number of actuarial seminars presented by Bruce and Bruce Actuaries. 115 register for Fourth National Golf Tournament MONROE, MI — William Penn members are visiting golf ranges throughout the country, warming up for the Fourth Annual National Golf Tournament to be held here July 11. The first foursome will tee-off at 8 a.m. at the Raisin River Golf Club. Before the end of the day, 115 members and friends of the Association will have played the 18-hole tournament. A new attraction at this year’s tournament will be a pre-tournament gathering Friday, July 10 at the Branch 18 Hungarian Social Club in Southgate, Mich. About 75 guests have reserved places for a delicious Hungarian dinner that evening. After dinner, they can enjoy two golf films, "Highlights of the 1985 Masters” and a "Golf Clinic” by PGA professionals. Following Saturday’s golf action, nearly 200 guests will attend the traditional tournament banquet at the Portside Inn. Each guest will have a chance to win one of a number of door prizes to be given away that night, including a complete set of clubs and golf bag. Of course, throughout the entire weekend there will be plenty of hospitality and fellowship at the tournament headquarters, the Presidential Inn. Golfers who did not request specific foursomes will be informed of their foursome at the hotel registration desk or No. 1 tee.
