Page 8, William Penn Life, July 1987 Branch News Branches 8, 52, 59 and 8321 WINDBER, PA - Four branches gathered for a breakfast meeting March 8 to award 50-year mem­bership pins and Illustrious Cita­tions to a total of 53 members from the four branches. Joining for this special event were members of Branch 8, Johns­town, Pa. and Branches 52, 59 and 8321 ofWindber. The break­fast was held at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Coordinators for the event were Branch 8 President and Coordinator Vera Petruska, Branch 8 Treasurer Steve Petru­ska and Branch 8321 Treasurer Nunzio Yocca. The National Officers present­ed Illustrious Citations to three branch officers who have per­formed with dedication during the course of their lives. They were Branch 52 President Louis Demko, Branch 52 Auditor Louis Vanyo and Branch 59 President John Orris. Vera Petruska received a spe­cial award of $50 from Dominic La Verde, manager of the Pitts­burgh-East sales agency, for her accomplishment in enrolling the most juvenile members. The 50 members who were honored with 50-year pins were: Andrew Alexander, Ernest Bartolomucci, Balint Beres, Nicola Bucci, Angeline Chicarelli, Joseph Chontas, John B. Costa, Dominick S. Debiase, Lewis Durant, Louis Esdinsky; James Gall, Joseph Horvath, Louis Kiss, Frank Laslo, Rose Laslo, Mary Lepedő, Elizabeth V. Lukacs, Frank Marino, Dezső J. Mihalko, Aaron Molnár; Margaret Najiczt, Margaret Nibert, Mary Nibert, Irene Piatek, Theresa Podrasky, Mary Puricelli, Stephen Rakoczy, Joseph Repko, Franciska Sebeszky, Stephen Shuster; Michael J. Skowron, Stanley J. Skowron, Peter Spinelli, Martin Spinos, Michael J. Spinos, Pearl Members of Branches 8, 52, 59 and 8321 who recently received 5G-year membership pins. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH Summer’s here and Cleveland area William Penn members will have an opportunity to gather at Geauga Lake Amusement Park in Aurora, Ohio on Sunday, Aug. 16. All children who are members of Branch 14 are admitted free, adult members pay $4.00 and non-members pay $8.00. A picnic area has been reserved as a central meeting place for fellowship. This year Geauga Lake has a new ride called the Eurorace Grand Prix Raceway, which has 1,500 feet of winding, banking pavement and Formula K cars. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Helen Kaluczky Branch 28 Reporter Everything is history now — the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, the Easter egg decoration, the annual 1848 War of Independ­ence celebration, the election of convention delegates and the 44th national bowling tournament. We offer our sincere thanks and appreciation for a wonderful bowling tournament to co-chair­men Stephen J. Ivancso and Albert G. Kertesz. The hospitality reception, the dinner-dance and the bowling all made for a very enjoyable weekend. Thank you also to the hard workers in the background who helped make it a great occasion. We wish you all the best. Branch 28 members participat­ing in the bowling were Steve Sándor, John Kaluczky, Art Szőke, Joe Illés, Eugene Sakasits, Julia Kozma, Vera Szőke, Frances Sakasits, Irene Nemeth, Marge Maty, Gert Thurik, Anna Frew, Vera Illés and Dee Gran. Of course, there was also our cheering section with Ed Gran, Joe Maty, Helen Kaluczky and Peg Sándor. Locally, we must offer our thanks to Peg for coordinating our bowlers into teams and doubles pairs, as well as taking care of dinner reservations. It is a big job and we sincerely appreci­ate her effort. At these fraternal events we catch a glimpse of the past and the way it must have been "in the Good Ol’ Days.” Friends visiting back and forth with each other, greeting each other with "Well, we made it again! Simon______ A fashion she w extravaganza with an internatio iái flair was held in April by St, John’s Byzantine Church of Solon, Ohio. The show benefitted the church’s building fund. The show’i committee includ­ed Cleveland ’ William Penn mem­bers Chairma i Goldie E. Simon, Margaret Szal :al, John and Irene Boros, and Ol] ;a Fekeshazy. Other committee members were Mary Meyers, Ida Stofcso, and Mar­garet Toth. The show was held at the Mediterranean Party Center with more than 350 guests in atten­dance. Bela Barath and his Ensemble provided beautiful continental music as the models walked the aisle in Fashions of Today by Carol Ann Faihions and child-Sonia Debreczini and Steven Soltay model Palotas Hungarian costumes at the Cleveland fashion show. ten’s fashions from Burlington Department Store. Authentic costumes from 16 nationalities were also modeled, one of which was an exquisite Palotas Hungarian costume dating back to the 17th century, worn by Sonia Debreczini and Steven Soltay Jr. Loretta Brown posed as the Statue of Liberty as the models appeared in their ethnic costumes to the tune of Neil Diamond’s "Coming to America.” Our total profit was $4,000 which was presented to the Rev. Thomas Loya, pastor of St. John’s Church, by Mrs. Simon and the committee. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA By Steve Szemes Branch 76 Coordinator Members of Branch 76, Philadel­phia, and Branch 218, Lucerne Mines, Pa., met May 8 for the election meeting of Delegate District 10. We were pleasantly surprised to see in attendance some long­time members who we had not seen for many years. We would like to have them and others attend our regular meetings and take an active role in our branch functions. District Chairman Steve Szemes welcomed those present and in­formed them of the duty and responsibility of the delegates participating in the 31st General Convention to be held in Toron­to, Canada this September. The names of the delegates and alternates will be published in next month’s William Penn Life . Mr. Szemes thanked the mem­bers for their kind attendance and cooperation in fulfilling their responsibility and also for a cordial and orderly meeting. At this time we would like to express our sympathy to Frances Bodi and her family on the passing ofTibor Bodi Jr. at the age of31. Our condolences go also to the family of Mrs. Caroline Gyuraky, a longtime member and an active Clubwoman. May Tibor and Caroline rest in peace.
