April 1987, William Penn Life, Page 9 Branch News Br. 71 couple marks 50th anniversary DUQUESNE, PA — Branch 71 members Gabriel and Yol­anda Czernai will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary May 1 with a Mass offered by the Rev. Stephen Kato at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. St. Stephen’s is the same church where they were mar­ried in 1937 by the Rev. John Retky. Mr. Czernai is a former nat­ional director of the William Penn. He began his career in 1935 with the Rákóczi Aid Association and was elected a director of Rákóczi in 1950. After serving four years in that position, he was elected to one term as a director for the William Penn Association following the merger between Rákóczi and the Verhovay Aid Association. Mr. Czernai played an in­strumental role in securing a successful merger. The Czernais have been act­ively involved in the social and fraternnal life of Hungarians in America since 1937. Mr. Czernai served as president of the United Magyar Civic Asso­ciation of Western Pennsyl­vania. Both Mr. and Mrs. Czernai retired on Jan. 31, 1975: Mr. Czernai after working 42 years for USX Steel Corp., and Mrs. Czernai after 23 years with Continental Can Co. Mrs. Czernai is the former Yolanda Rederi. The Czernais are the parents of Mrs. Alex (Theresa Marie) Girkiny, Joseph Czernai and Marian Casas. We congratulate Gabriel and Yolanda and wish them many more happy years to­gether. Br, 14 to host picnic at Geauga Lake Park CLEVELAND - Branch 14 members should mark their cal­endars for Sunday, Aug. 16. That’s the day when the branch is sponsoring an outing at Geauga Lake Park in Aurora, Ohio. All children who are Branch 14 members will be admitted free. Adult branch members will get one-half off the regular admis­sion price. A picnic area has been reserved as a central meeting place for fellowship. You can leave your picnic baskets there while you enjoy the rides or just walk around the park. Tickets will be available at the beginning of June. For reserva­tions call Branch Secretary Dawn Ward at (216) 238-8500. This year Geauga Lake Park has a new ride called the Euro­racer Grand Prix Raceway. It has 1,500 feet of winding, banking pavement and Formula K cars you can drive at fabulous speeds. If it’s a scorcher of a day, bring your bathing suits to cool off in the Wave. It’s 1.78 million gal­lons of water in a 57,000 square foot pool producing waves up to six-feet high every two minutes. For the kids, there’s Rainbow Island with 16 fabulous rides. Branch 8369 PHILADELPHIA — Branch 8369 met Feb. 16 at the home of Branch Vice President John Bas­­ciano to discuss plans for the branch’s upcoming dinner and show for local senior citizens. Date and time for the annual affair will be announced soon. Branch 8050 PITTSBURGH — Branch 8050 met Feb. 17 at All Saints Center to plan its activities for the year.
