Branch 8036 Greensburg, PA The members of Branch 8036 met Sept. 28 at Jimmy Paul’s Restaurant. Branch President Glenn Johnson, a delegate to the General Convention, hosted a dinner for the members of the branch. He gave a report on the Convention following the meal. Branch 8057 Verona, PA Branch 8057 held its regular business meeting on Oct. 14 at St. Joseph Activity Hall. Pittsburgh- East Agency Manager Dominic La Verde and sales representative Lee Ann Shively addressed the members on insurance benefits offered by the Association. Branch 8075 Wilkes-Barre, PA The members of Branch 8075 met Oct. 20 at the home of Branch Vice President Charles Dress. The members listened intently as a letter on sexism from John P. Fernando, Ph.D., and a letter from National President Stephen G. Danko were read. The branch will hold a Thanksgiving Day Mass for the deceased members of the Association at 9:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Church. Coffee and donuts will be served after the Mass. Fodor) meeting held Oct. 11 at St. Anthony’s Friary. After the meeting, all the members went to Pittsburgh for a river cruise on the Majestic riverboat. The food served was excellent and everyone enjoyed the program and bus ride. Branch 8113 Lucinda, PA The members of Branch 8113 met Oct. 20 to finalize plans for the turkey raffle and shooting match. The branch will sponsor the event in November. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA The members of Branch 8121 took nominations of branch officers for 1988. The election will take place at the December meeting. Letters on insurance were read and discussed and favors for the William Penn were finished. The members also signed cards which will be given to residents of the William Penn Home for the Elderly. Branch 8149 Pittsburgh, PA The members of Branch 8149 made plans to have a card party on Nov. 30 during their regular business meeting held on Oct. 12 at St. Anselm’s Church. Branch members also plan to make a trip to the Association’s facility in Wellsburg, W.Va., on Nov. 6 to 8. The members will take cookies and ice cream for the residents of the William Penn Home for the Elderly there and will join them in a sing-a-long. Branch 8155 Steelton, PA Branch 8155 held its regular business meeting on Oct. 7 at St. John’s Church at which members discussed plans to install new base molding and paint the ceiling in the St. John’s school corridor. Flowers will be placed on the church’s altar on Nov. 8 in memory of the deceased members of the branch. Branch members will also help with the annual Christmas party for senior citizens on Dec. 6. The branch plans to purchase and install new mirrors in the boy’s restroom at the school and to purchase 200 new plastic coat hangers for the church. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH The members of Branch 8164 met Oct. 11 in St. Anthony’s Rectory Social Hall. Our branch members were very pleased to hear from Louis A. Fodor that he was re-elected to the National Auditing Committee and will now serve as the Committee’s chairman. Mr. Fodor also reported on the new officers elected at the General Convention. He also told us about the future of the William Penn Home for the Elderly and how the Association will continue to be dedicated to keeping the Home in good condition. Branch 8222 Wilkinsburg, PA By Eileen Wenzel Branch 8222 Secretary Branch 8222 Wilkinsburg, Pa., has been busy working on our "Respect for Life” project. It is helping the elderly at St. Joseph Nursing and Health Care Center. Members from our branch volunteered 225 hours at the Center during September, helping the patients in many special ways. We also volunteered at a fundraising luncheon and fashion show benefitting the Center, which was held at the Duquesne Golf Club. Profits from this event totalled more than $3,700. The branch held its regular business meeting Oct. 15 at St. James Cafeteria, during which money was collected for beauty supplies for the St. Joseph Center. Branch President Norbert Clair and Branch Secretary Eileen Wenzel discussed the 31st General Convention and expressed their hope for unity within the Association. The members also planned to send get well cards to two of their fellow members who were in the hospital. Branch 8321 Windber, PA The members of Branch 8321 will hold a memorial Mass in November for deceased members of the branch, including Dominick DeBiase who passed away recently. The branch held its regular monthly meeting Sept. 27 at St. Anthony’s Church at which members learned that the bell at the church cemetery is now in excellent working condition. Branch 8326 Smithton, PA The members of Branch 8326 Smithon, Pa. gathered on Sept. 27 in Pittsburgh for a special river cruise and lunch aboard one of the boats of the Gateway Clipper Fleet. A total of 23 members enjoyed this cruise. NFCA selects Fraternalist of the Year CHICAGO — Lillian Taubert, a member of the Order of the Sons of Hermann in the State of Texas, was named Fraternalist of the Year by the National Fraternal Congress of America at its 101st Annual Meeting in Chicago Oct. 1 to 4. Ms. Taubert was selected from 29 nominees submitted by NFCA member societies. The Fraternalist of the Year award was established in 1985 and is presented each year to the individual who best exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism and fratemalism. A 42-year member of the Order, Ms. Taubert has served as vice president and president of the San Antonio lodge and is serving her second four-year term on the Grand Lodge Committee which administers a home for the aged. She was co-chairman of the first annual Hermann’s Happiness, a major San Antonio Fiesta event. A registered nurse, she has used her training and experience to help thousands of people through volunteerism. Her most recognized efforts are those associated with the American Cancer Society. She has performed volunteer work for several other organizations, including the American Red Cross, Visiting Nurse Association, Central Catholic High School, Heart Association, Natural Plant Society of Texas and is co-founder of Future Nurse’s Clubs action in Texas high schools.
