Page 4, William Penn Life, November 1987 Branch News Branch 13 Trenton, NJ By Elsie H. Radvany Branch 13 Secretary The members of Branch 13 Trenton, N.J. congratulate the newly elected National Officers, Board of Directors and Auditing Committee members who were elected and installed at the 31st General Convention held in Toronto, Canada this September. Branch 13 was certainly honored when its two delegates to the Convention were assigned to serve on committees there. Anthony C. Beke was assigned to the Election/Tellers Committee but later relinquished that position since he was a candidate for alternate director. Our other delegate, Joseph Hamari, was assigned to the Resolutions Committee. Frank J. Radvany, president of Branch 13 and secretary of the Board of Directors, served as secretary of the Convention. We also extend congratulations to Mr. Radvany on his re-election to the Board, Mr. Beke on his election as third alternate director and Mr. Hamari on his election as an alternate Auditing Committee member. During the Convention Branch 13 also participated in a donation to the Association’s Scholarship Foundation. Branch 13 is making preparations for the annual meeting and election of officers to be held on Sunday, Dec. 6. Following the annual meeting, there will be a family Christmas party. For servicing your insurance needs, please contact Elsie H. Radvany, 2006 Yardley Road, Morrisville, Pa. 19067, (215) 295-2222. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH By Dawn Ward Branch 14 Reporter The holiday season is soon approaching and the members of Branch 14 are looking forward to another wonderful Christmas party to be held on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church. The children from Branch 14 will receive invitations, but all members are welcome. Entertainment will be provided by Lucky the Clown and a marvelous magic show will be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Santa and his helpers will also be sure to attend with gifts for the children. The second annual dinnerdance was cancelled due to the unavailability of the cook. As soon as she returns from Hungary, the dance will be rescheduled, and the date will be published in the William Penn Life. National Director Stephen J. Ivancso (right) and Advisory Board member and Branch 18 President Stephen Danko pose with Branch 18 members who recently were honored as 50-year members. They are (front, from left) Helen Polivchak, Velma Nagy and Irene Kalóz, and (back) Elizabeth Petro, Elizabeth Porch, Mary Szalay, Marie Pribanyec and Anna Nagy. Branch 44 members Elizabeth Darago (left) and her sister Maralyn, granddaughters of former National President Joseph Darago, join Louis Kovács, past president of the Hungarian American Club of Akron, at the Club’s recent dinner commemorating the Hungarian Freedom Fight. Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Julia Danko Branch 18 Reporter and Barbara A. House Branch 18 Secretary We want to congratulate all the National Officers elected at the General Convention held in Toronto. We are very proud that Branch 18 again led the way by electing Stephen G. Danko from our branch as national president, John Molnár as a national director, Stephen P. Danko as a member of the National Auditing Committee, Stephen Szatmári as second alternate director and Frank Tima as third alternate auditor. Congratulations and may your term be one of great success and continued progress for our great fraternal society. Keep in mind the pledge that was made at the Convention: Magyarok voltunk — Vagyunk — Leszünk Choke. Branch 18 honored their 50- year members at a special dinner held Sept. 26 at the Branch 18 Social Club. Those honored were Marie G. Pribanyec, Irene Kalóz, Velma Nagy, Mary Szalay, Elizabeth Porch, Elizabeth Petro, Anna Nagy and Helen Polivchak. Each was presented with a 50- year citation plaque and pin from the Home Office. Also honored at the dinner were the branch officers and members who helped at our April 26 banquet and dance concert. Among the 60 persons in attendance were National Director Stephen J. Ivancso and his wife, Mary, from Toledo, Ohio who presented the 50-year awards. The branch was busy preparing for its annual Szüreti Bal (Grape Festival) which was held Oct. 10 at the Social Club. Emil Jakab’s orchestra entertained the guests and the dinner was prepared by Club Chef Stephen Szatmári. A trip to Las Vegas was led by Branch Fraternal Coordinator Darlene Szatmári on Oct. 1. Many members took advantage of the chance to get away for a few days. Two of those on the trip, Joe and Betty Soter, had a small family reunion when their son and daughter-in-law flew in from nearby Santa Ana, Calif. Also while in Las Vegas, Ann Nagy surprised her husband Steve by having their son fly in from Arizona. 1 haven’t heard any stories about sudden wealth around the Club, so it seems the only profit was in lasting friendships. Branch Secretary Barbara House and her mother Irene Gall- Korpak recently returned from Hungary. This was Barbara’s fourth trip and Irene’s 13th. They visited a great number of relatives and saw many of the sights. They say it is a must trip for anyone, a trip that certainly makes you proud to be Hungarian. Bowling News Due to the General Convention many of our bowlers were absent. However, the league did get off to a good start with the Odd Balls taking the lead with four points along with Branch 18 #2, The Rookies, and the Long Shots. Dance Group News Our William Penn dancers performed Oct. 3 at the Hungarian Reformed Church hall at the church’s "Night in Budapest” dinner-dance. The group also performed at our Grape Festival on Oct. 10 and at St. Stephen’s Church Hall in Toledo on Oct. 17. They are very busy practicing every Saturday for they have a very full schedule this winter. Our dancers enjoyed their trip to Hungary this summer and learned a lot of new steps which they will demonstrate in their 1988 performances. The dance group and their instructors thank the Home Office and Branch 18 for making their trip to Hungary possible. Anyone interested in joining the dance group can contact their instructor, Darlene Szatmári, at (313) 284-4327 or (313) 381- 9881. Ladies Auxiliary President Eleanor Kender reported the loss of a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Mrs. Mary Demcsak. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to her husband and family. May she rest in peace. Julia Tremble, one of our dear members, is seriously ill and we wish her a speedy recovery. Also, we hope that Mary Kato will be feeling fine soon. Vice President Anna Leny left in October for Germany where she vacationed with her daughter Violet and son-in-law Bill Misanyi. Emma Collins is also vacationing in Hungary. Our former president Elvira Kubovics and her husband have left for Fort Meyers, Fla. for the winter. Also, Julia and Steve Danko have made their annual exodus to Florida. Upcoming Events On Nov. 11 Santa Ferenc will return to our Club for another concert. If you missed his performance here in September, make your reservations now to see him this time. Reservations are also being accepted for places at the Club’s Thanksgiving Day dinner. Branch 18 meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of every month at the Social Club. We urge all members to please attend and enjoy a social after the meeting. Branch 19 New Brunswick, NJ By Ruth Vasvary Branch 19 Vice President Once again the summer is behind us and we look forward to the activities of the fall, winter and spring. Branch committees are busy planning to collect contributions for food baskets for the needy at Thanksgiving, our annual family Christmas party and a spring dinner-dance. Our family Christmas party will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church Hall, located at the corner of Bayard and Joyce Kilmer Avenue. There will be entertainment, food, treats, Christmas presents and a visit from Santa. Our branch sends special congratulations to our newly-elected national officers: National President Stephen G. Danko, National Secretary E. E. Vargo, National Treasurer Frances A. Furedy, National Vice President Zoltán B. Emri and Chairman of the Board Joseph P. Arvay. May the years ahead be fruitful ones as we work together. Thanksgiving is that beautiful time of year when we think with grateful hearts of our families and friends, a time when we especially appreciate our many blessings and give thanks. May these be the blessings Thanksgiving brings to you: The warmth of old familiar things, The joy of having loved ones near, Of family traditions cherished and dear, All the good things you are fondest of, And the dearest of all — the Blessing of Love. Happy Thanksgiving. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Helen Kaluczky Branch 28 Reporter Although we do remember our beloved dead every day, somehow during the month of November it is especially appropriate that we concentrate our prayers and memories upon them. Our branch holds services at one of the Hungarian churches every year at about this time, honoring and remembering all of those William Penn members who have passed away. We also will remember Mrs. Clara Szabó, Mrs. Ann Liptak and Mr. Frank Sanders (Sándor), our branch president’s brother. We offer their families our sympathy and sincere regret at their loss. May they rest in peace. Congratulations go out to the Association’s new officers. May you all have the wisdom and knowledge that is absolutely essential in managing a thriving fraternal organization. May we all go forward in unity and peace and complete understanding of each other’s needs and difficulties, as well as in the happiness we ------------Continued on Page 5
