Page 10, November-December 1986, William Penn Life BRANCH NEWS Columbus Branch Hosts Centennial Picnic By AI Bartfay Branch 129 President COLUMBUS, OH - The biggestturnout in a generation attended the Columbus William Penn Centennial Picnic Sept. 7 at the Columbus Dispatch Country Club. Well over 200 persons of all ages attended. For many it was the first time they had attended a Columbus William Penn activity, and we feel that since a good time was had by all it won’t be the last time. National Secretary E.E. Vargo brought with him two Herend Centennial plates as door prizes. The winners were Elizabeth Pate and Dr. Attilla Relle, a Columbus dentist. Alex Bodnar and three other members of the Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western Penn­sylvania displayed a variety of Hungarian dances in a tho­roughly professional way. Eleven branch members were awarded 50-year pins by Mr. Vargo and National Di­rector Albert G. Kertesz. The recipients were Margaret Caccavello, Mary Cole, Steve Csubak, Margaret George, Anna Holman, Joseph Horvath, Margaret Leonardo, Jim Tank­­ovich, Frank Toki, Irene Voss and Helen Waldeck. In other branch news, Branch 129 will hold its annual Christmas party from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the 495 VFW Hall on Columbus' West Side. There will be lots of great food, a visit from Santa Claus and gifts for the kids. The party will also feature a talent show featuring mem­bers and friends. The hall is at the corner of Princeton and Union streets. The branch holds its regular meetings every other month on the second Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is set for Dec. 10 at which officers will be elected for 1987. Meetings are held at Leon­ardo’s, 1374 Parsons, begin­ning at 7:30 p.m. The branch congratulates Columbus Agency Manager Joseph Barreiro, FIC, who was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Ohio Chap­ter of the National Fraternal Congress of America. All five members of the team — Darlene and Wayne Wagner, Mike and Steve Wald and Jack Br. 76 To Hold Officer Election By Steve Szemes Branch 76 Reporter PHILADELPHIA, PA — With the coming of the winter season, Branch 76 is making plans for the branch activities and election of officers for the coming year. The election will take place at the branch meeting to be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. All members are urged to attend to elect officers and develop activities to help the organization grow. The branch extends is sin­cere best wishes to everyone for the coming Holidays and the New Year. Lippert — posted a perfect attendance record, with fellow­ship prevailing before and after the shoots. First half results found the William Penn team winners of their division. In a four-way shootoff for first half cham­pion, there was only a two target difference between the winner and last place team, with William Penn coming in second. All team members will receive a trophy. I n the formative years of the team, the high gun award was given for averages in the 20 to 21 range. This year Mike Wald received the award and trophy for a whopping 23.00 average out of a possible 25. This was followed closely by Wayne Wagner with 22.73 and Jack Lippert with 22.66. On Aug. 24, the team travel­ed to Oshkosh, Wise., and boarded the Valley Queen II, sailing the waters of lakes Win­nebago and Butte des Morts, and the Fox River. The evening cruise on the old paddle wheeler provided music, danc­ing and a prime rib dinnerthat was enjoyed by all. By Bill Arbanas Branch 8020 President McKEES ROCK, PA — The Association’s National Offi­cers joined local government and civic leaders Nov. 4 for the dedication of the Dr. Earl Young Memorial Park at the Robinson Developmental Center. Dr. Young, who died Nov 4, 1984, was a member of the Center’s board of directors. The Center is a home for 132 mentally retarded adults. Dialoiso Branch 8057 President VERONA, PA — Branch 8057, will hold a Christmas party Dec. 10 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Michael Pirollo Pizzeria Cafe. Vargo and Fraternal Director Elizabeth A. Szabó represented the Home Office. Representing Branch 8020, McKees Rocks, were Branch President Bill Arbanas and his wife Verna, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Telipsky, Nick Kotek and State Rep. Fred Trello. Branch members have served as volunteers at the Center for a number of years. The branch also recently celebrated its 80th anniversary with a special dinner at the Oakmont (Pa.) Yatch Club. The members of Branch 8057 wish all William Penn members and their families a Happy Holiday Season. Mr. Arbanas has served on its board since 1977. Guests at the ceremony were provided refreshments and a tour of the Center. In other news, the branch will hold a Christmas party Dec. 7 for the residents of the Mount St. George Home. On Dec. 19, Branch 8020 will hold a Christmas Party for the resi­dents at the Center. The officers and members of Branch 8020 wish all Asso­ciation members and their families a happy and healthy Holiday Season. Cape Coral Plans Party By Irene E. Sabo Branch 590 Reporter CAPE CORAL, FL - Plans are in the making for Branch 590’s Christmas party to be held in December. Irene Redden is chairman for the event along with Branch Man­ager Anthony Noel. Election of new officers for 1987 was to be held at the branch’s Nov. 2 meeting. The branch was encouraging all members to be present, cast their votes and form opinions on all important matters con­cerning the Association. Member Violet Timmer re­cently returned from a Euro­pean tour, which included a stay in Hungary with relatives. All present at the meeting enjoyed listening to her ex­periences in Hungary, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. MERRY CHRISTMAS Branch 1 Donation BRIDGEPORT, CT — The members of Branch 1 recently voted to donate funds for both Thanksgiving and Christmas to the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
