Page 16, September-October 1986, William Penn Life Three Career Agents Join Sales Force Dan Wahl, acting national sales director, recently announced the addition of three new career agents to the Association’s sales force. They are Kim Garbert, Raymond Nuzzo and Max J. Tomayko. Mr. Garbert, of Mishawaka, Ind., will work out of the South Bend agency under the direction of agency manager Gary Clevenger. During his early business career, Mr. Garbert worked in his family’s furniture store until 1979 when he opened his own store in Vincennes, Ind. After three successful years he sold the store and joined Commonwealth Insurance. He holds a certificate of management degree from Southwestern Michigan College and has attended Michigan State University. He and his wife, Rhonda, have two children. Mr. Nuzzo, of Naugatuck, Conn., will work under agency manager Matthew Longobardi in the Bridgeport, Conn., agency. A native of New Haven, Mr. Nuzzo entered the insurance field in January 1964 as an agent for Metropolitan Life. He attended training school in Chicago and became an insurance consultant. He left Metropolitan in 1974 to start his own agency, which he operated until 1986. During his career, Mr. Nuzzo has received 18 agent of the year awards and achieved $1 million in sales several times. Mr. Tomayko will work in the Pittsburgh East agency under the direction of Dominic La Verde. A native of Superior, Pa., Mr. Tomayko brings to the Association 30 years of experience in the insurance field as an agent, general agent, manager and MDRT. He holds a degree in business management from Penn State University and the LUTC and NASD licenses. He has served in the U.S. Navy and Reserves, was past president of his local school board, civic club and town council and was past adjutant and commander of his American Legion post. He and his wife, Helen, have a son, Michael, and a daughter, Michelle. Top Agents-Mr. La Verde of the Greater Pittsburgh agency was honored as the Association’s Leading Sales Representative, based on volume, premiums, sales and insurance. In 1985, he recorded a volume of 2,456,084 on 197 sales worth $1.3 million in insurance and $310,791 in---------------------From Page 12 premiums. Mr. Aronne of the Greater Boston agency captured second place honors for the second year in a row, recording a volume of 2,041,511. The Association also presented the Ben Franklin Award, which is given to those members of the sales force who made 100 or more sales in the previous year. Each recipient receives a $100 bill (the bill with Ben Franklin’s picture). This year’s recipients of the Ben Franklin Award were: Mr. Wahl, 224 sales; Mr. La Verde, 197; Mr. Sulkosky, 157; Mr. Ward, 148; Mr. Barreiro, 145; Jodene Pascarella, 133; Mr. Hody, 115; and Mr. Aronne, 109. The most touching moment of the conference came when Mr. Abels officially announced his resignation from the sales directorship. In his remarks, Mr. Abels noted that he started the Association’s first career agency, the Western Pennsylvania agency, located then in Homestead, Pa. He always “looked at things from the positive point of view,” and said it gave him great pleasure to see how the Association’s career agencies have grown during his tenure in office. While excited about the possibilities offered by a Florida agency, Mr. Abels said leaving the Home Office was tinged with “a little sadness, too.” He thanked the sales force for their friendship and support and extended special thanks to his wife, Sara Jane, for her years of help and support. “You haven’t heard the last of us,” he told the luncheon audience, wishing all good luck in qualifying for next year’s conference to be held in Toronto.
