Page 14, July-August 1986, William Penn Life Wahl Heads Sales Force Promotions List Dan Wahl, FIC, manager of the Greater Pittsburgh sales agency, has been appointed as national sales director by the Association’s Executive Committee. The committee also has appointed Jeff Ward, CLU, ChFC, manager of the Cleveland agency, as Mr. Wahl’s assistant. The Board of Directors must approve the appointments before they can take effect. The board is scheduled to meet Aug. 18 to 20. Mr. Wahl would replace Ron Abels as head of the Association’s national sales effort. Mr. Abels resigned as national sales director earlier this year in order to start an agency for the William Penn in Florida. The committee made the appointments based, in part, on strong recommendations from Mr. Abels. “I feel that we are very fortunate in having such fine people as Dan and Jeff, who have represented the Dan Wahl William Penn with dignity and respect,” Mr. Abels said. “They are the future of the William Penn’s sales operation.” Mr. Wahl, 32, joined the Association in August 1981 as a sales representative. During 1982 and 1983, he was named Agent of the Month 18 out of 24 months, even though the competition Earl Webb was fierce. He replaced Mr. Abels as manager of the Pittsburgh agency in January 1984. Since then, the agency has been the Association’s leading sales agency. Mr. Wahl also has served as Mr. Abels’ assistant for the past several months. Mr. Ward, 32, was hired by the Association in May 1982 Dominic La Verde to manage the Cleveland agency. Under his leadership, the Cleveland agency has been the runnerup agency the last four years, finishing behind the Greater Pittsburgh agency. According to Mr. Abels, Mr. Ward’s sales activity increased substantially in 1985. He also credited Mr. Ward for doing “an outstanding job on the Mort 30 program for our 100th anniversary.” Mr. Ward will continue to manage the Cleveland agency. Following Mr. Wahl’s appointment, the Greater Pittsburgh agency, which comprises the Pittsburgh East and Pittsburgh West agencies, would be managed by two agents. Dominic La Verde would head the Pittsburgh East agency. Mr. La Verde started with the William Penn in March 1985 as a sales representative. Since Jan. 1 of this year, he has been a district manager for the Greater Pittsburgh agency. The Pittsburgh West agency would be managed by Earl Webb. Mr. Webb joined the Association as a sales representative in July 1985 and was promoted to district manager at the Greater Pittsburgh agency on Jan. 1, 1986. Business Briefs Underwriting Chief Retires In reporting the retirements earlier this year of three of the Association’s national officers, we regrettably failed to note the retirement of one of the Home Office’s department chiefs. Ernest Bendzsuk retired Feb. 1 as chief underwriter, after serving the Association for 30 years.. Following Mr. Bendzsuk’s retirement, William Brna was named as chief underwriter.
