After two years of intensive campaigning under George Washington, Colonel Kovats fell mortally wounded in 1779 & in the battle of Charleston, South Carolina. Recently a group of dedicated Hungarians, including John Santo and Anthony Gymarody, instituted a project to have a memorial stone placed !( in Valley Forge Park and a plaque placed in the chapel, known as Washington Memorial Chapel, to honor a great Hungarian during the Revolutionary War. The plaque was installed in the Bell Tower of the chapel with beautiful appropriate ceremonies. A generous contribution was made by the William Penn Association to this Memorial Fund.
