Santa’s arrival was the highlight of the afternoon when children were presented with gifts and candy. Santa was assisted by officers of the Branch. A buffet was then served. Officers for 1986 were elected during the annual business meeting held in early December. Branch 076 Philadelphia, PA By Steve Szemes, Reporter With the advent of a new year, members of Branch 076 are filled with high hopes and pledged to new dedication as we approach the 100th anniversary celebration of the William Penn Association. Branch 8222 Pittsburgh, PA By Norbert Clair Branch President On December 15th, the branch had its annual Christmas Party at Duranti’s Restaurant. It was well attended by members and guests, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Leute, insurance representatives from the Home Office. Another guest was the newly appointed priest from St. James Church in Wilkinsburg, Pa., Father John Reifsnyder. One of our members, Hazel Tierney, was celebrating her 94th birthday. Hazel has been widowed for 17 years and still worked as a Practical Nurse every day until four years ago. She said, “It’s about time someone else takes my place so I can enjoy my retirement.” The Branch voted to give our adopted Vietnamese family a $25.00 gift certificate for a Christmas dinner. We also gave them a gift certificate for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Nhu and her five children have been living in Wilkinsburg since September 1985 and are in need of all the help they can get. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH All officers of Branch 8164 were unanimously re-elected to their posts for 1986 during the annual business meeting in December. They include Albert Antinone, president; Angela D’Aurora, vice-president; Albert DiFalco, secretarytreasurer; Fannie Cipolla, recorder; Pete Buffone and Sebastian Grossi, trustees; and Kathryn Renda, alternate. D’Aurora was also named publicity chairman. Branch members attended mass at St. Anthony’s Church and a breakfast followed in the rectory social room. Msgr. Paul L. Richter, the Branch’s Spiritual Advisor, gave the invocation. Breakfast hostesses were Julia D’Aurora, Mathilda Maier and Julia Miller. Louis Fodor, of Weirton, W. Va., and National Auditor for the Association, expressed his appreciation to the members for their spirit of fraternalism in continuously contributing to the welfare of the Mt. St. George Home. Fodor also announced an open house will be held Friday, Feb. 21, at the Home Office in Pittsburgh. Plans are underway, by the Association, for a 100th anniversary celebration in May. Branch 16 Perth Amboy, NJ By Michaelene Mirkovich Reporter Michael Hrabar was again elected as president of Branch 16 in Perth Amboy. He and other officers were elected during the annual business meeting following the Branch Christmas party. Those who will serve with him are Mary Mészáros, secretarytreasurer; Ann Hrabar and Annette Hrabar, auditors; and Michaelene Mirkovich, reporter. President Hrabar, who is also National Auditor, extended holiday greetings to the party goers following a lunch of hot dogs and all the fixings. He then introduced Steve Mészáros who led the children in group singing. George Mirkovich provided accordion accompaniment. Entertainment featured Joe Fischer who performed magic acts that astonished young and old. And he was given plenty of help from his small assistants. Following his performance, the distant sounds of “Ho, Ho, Ho” signaled the arrival of Santa Claus who was then the center of attraction for the remainder of the program. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ By Ernest Mozer Branch Manager Mr. and Mrs. Sándor Lakatos Mr. and Mrs. Sándor Lakatos of Garfield, N.J. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 17, 1985. Both have been members of Branch 51 and have served as Branch officers for many years. At 11 o’clock a high mass was celebrated by The Rev. Bela Torok, pastor of St. Stephen’s R.C. Magyar Church, Passaic, where Ilona and Sándor renewed their wedding vows. Later that afternoon, a surprise dinner was given by their children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barillo and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lakatos. In attendance were their six lovely grandchildren, relatives and friends. Entertainment was provided by. “Gypsy Joe.” On behalf of Branch 51 we wish to offer continued happiness and good health on this joyous occasion. He became a grandfather at age 80 when a son was born to Nate Jr. and his lovely wife, Patricia, in November.... Congratulations to Charles Szekely, Branch 28 auditor, on his reelection as president of the Senior Citizens of the Hungarian Churches of Youngstown. These include St. Stephen of Hungary where Fr. Bernard Bonnot is pastor; Our Lady of Hungary with Fr. Ban Vitéz as pastor; Hungarian Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sándor J. Farkas as pastor; and the American-Hungarian Reformed Church with Rev. Sándor Fuleki as pastor. Bouquets to Henry and Wilma Borkes on their son’s promotion with Alcan Aluminum. He is Ronald Borkes, a resident of Poland, Ohio .... Sympathies are extended to the families of Matilda Horvath and Ethel Suhy. They will be remembered during the annual special services for deceased members at various churches in the branch area.
