Here is a recounting of their activities.) By Vivian R. Findon My work with the Centennial Celebration began on Jan. 15, 1986, when I recorded the minutes of the Administration Committee meeting. At this meeting there were lengthy discussions on the upcoming Founder’s Day program. I was responsible for drafting the text and getting two different invitations (one for the opening ceremony/open house and one for the open house only) printed for Founder’s Day, selecting and ordering the napkins for the upcoming celebrations, typing text for the program brochure and designing and having printed a special registration book for Founder’s Day. Using the draft of the invitation list discussed at the meeting, I began inputting names and addresses on the personal computer for our mail list. This would eventually be the beginning of a data base for our invitation list for the May 24 Centennial Banquet. Frances Furedy, administrative assistant to the national president, researched addresses of past officers, retirees and families of deceased officers. From the finalized list Home Office employee Rose Ann Rapagna addressed over 200 invitations in her beautiful handscript style. National Directors William C. Kohut and Barbara B. Botkin drafted a proposed centennial album which would include the names, photographs and messages from religious and political dignitaries and other notables. These persons were sent individual letters inviting them to the banquet and requesting a picture and message to the Association. The responses were entered on the PC and I began compiling a message and photograph file. In addition to the Home Office employees, official family, sales office, branch officers and retirees, the list would eventually include Mount St. George, Scenic View, fraternals, members of Hungarian organizations and many others. When the list was finalized, Rose Ann Rapagna addressed over 600 invitations in handscript. As the RSVP cards came into the office, the reservations were entered on the PC and checks were tallied and deposited. The response to the invitations was overwhelming. It was hoped that at least 500 to 600 would attend, but when more than 1,000 reservations had been made, the reservations had to be closed. The Thursday before the banquet we received the table chart for the hotel ballroom. Miss Furedy made up sheets for tables and with her expertise, the seating was arranged. This was a very involved process and Home Office employees Virginia Furman, Beverly Shoup, Gerry Robison, Karen Naccarato, Joan Rechtenwald and I worked until late Friday night. Miss Rechtenwald programmed the PC to output reservation lists by name and table. The tickets were numbered and enclosed in envelopes by table to distribute prior to the banquet. The night of the banquet was hectic with lines of people waiting for their tickets. National President Gay B. Banes arranged the seating for the headtable and I made name cards for the speakers. Various dignitaries and selected guests were invited to a President’s Reception. I drafted and had printed invitations for this affair. The guests for the reception were to receive buttonaires. Mr. and Mrs. George Charles and Miss Marcy and Miss Hilda Joseph pitched in and pinned on the buttonaires. I also drafted the first outlines for the program brochure and coordinated the messages and photographs. I also had to make numerous phone calls to get photographs and messages that we had not received. The week before the banquet I turned this project over to Publications Editor John Lovász. After the banquet I worked with Karen Naccarato and sent thank you letters and Herend commemorative plates from President Banes on behalf of the official family to all speakers and special participants in the celebration.
