PENN LIFE WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION Volume 21 January-February 1986 Number 1 Founders Day The William Penn Association celebrates its 100th birthday on February 21, 1986. The main centennial celebration will be observed May 24,1986 in Pittsburgh. However, to pay our respects to the Founding Fathers, the Board of Directors on February 21, commencing at noon will hold an OPEN HOUSE at the Home Office inviting officers of sister societies in the Pittsburgh area, local Branch Officers, present and reLired employees to join with us on this happy occasion. The William Penn Association’s 43rd Annual Bowling Tournament and Scholarship Days will be held at the fabulous Westin William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, beginning Friday, May 23, through Sunday, May 25, 1986. A gala dinner-dance will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin William Penn Hotel on Saturday evening, May 24, commencing at 7:00 p.m. Cocktail Hour (cash bar) will begin at 6:00 p.m. A prime rib dinner will be served at $18.00 per person. Entertainment will include performers from Hungary and America. The Bowling Tournament will begin on Saturday, May 24, at 9:00 a.m. at the McKnight Lanes for team events. Sunday, May 25, is for singles and doubles. Buses will be available to and from the Hotel and Bowling Lanes, as in the past. Following are a few attractions to visit while in Pittsburgh, “America’s Most Livable City”: You can browse through the beautiful, historic Station Square which has many specialty shops and fine restaurants. You might want to ride the Incline and view the Golden Triangle from atop Mt. Washington. You can stroll down Fifth Avenue and shop at the many fine stores in the downtown area. There are many within walking distance of the hotel, including Kaufmann’s, Gimbels, Joseph Horne and Sak’s Fifth Avenue. You will be close to Three Rivers Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates and the Civic Arena, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Spirit. JUNE 21 (Saturday) Budapest — A grand tour of Budapest will begin right after breakfast with stops at Heroe’s Square with the Millennium Monu-Continued on page 2 column 2 Two National Officers Retire The retirement of John Sabo as National President and Gus G. Nagy as National Secretary effective January 31,1986 was announced at a meeting of the William Penn Association Board of Directors in December. Mr. Sabo rose to the rank of President after an extensive career with the Association, one dating from 1943 when he was elected National Controller, then elected Director. He assumed the office of President in January 1984. He served with distinction in the various offices he held throughout his tenure at William Penn. Widely known in fraternalist organizations, he is held in high esteem by his fellow fraternalists. Mr. Nagy joined the Association in 1953 as a full-time District Manager in the Pittsburgh area. He was later named Vice President of Membership Services. He was appointed National Secretary- Treasurer in 1981 and was elected to a full term as National Secretary in 1983. The next official due date for all material submitted is March 10, 1986.
