The Board of Directors, National Officers and members of the William Penn Association would like to take this opportunity to offer you our sincere congratulations upon your elevation to the rank of Commander, USN. It is truly an honor to have one of our own members attain such a prestigious position. We are sure that you and your family are truly proud of your accomplishment, as well as the William Penn Association. Your accomplishments were through conscientious dedication to serve your country to the best of your ability. Professor Bolino, who is Vice President for Research of the Ellis Island Restoration Comission, has written an authoritative and useful volume on all aspects of the Ellis Island experience. This major book is the culmination of seven years of research by Dr. Bolino, who assisted the National Park Service in its planning for Ellis Island. He travelled to many large cities to obtain the views of historians, ethnographers and ethnic organizations, and to locate materials about the Island. His search through libraries and archives in the U.S. and Europe is reflected in the comprehensive 150-page bibliography. He also includes many previously unpublished photographs. Once again best wishes to you and your family. May God grant you health and happiness for many years so you may continue your dedicated service. It would be very much appreciated if you would forward us a photograph of yourself so we may publish same in our official publication. Fraternally yours, J}. /?**t**~~-^ Frank J. Now, as a tradition for five years in a rowthe Hungarians have been represented in the Ethnic Parade. Lucky enough for the Hungarian Ethnic Group, the William Penn Association was again a sponsor along with a new sponsor, Carmen Guenther. This is the first year we had trilateral representation, sponsorship and actual physical representation from all of these sanctions. These last five years have been a more formalized form of parading because previously through the Folk Festival Committee the Hungarian Ethnic Group participated and marched in costume with the rest of the Ethnics from the Civic Arena to the City County Jail House courtyard. I remember very clearly Chuck Cubelic feverishly organizing this so that the Ethnics had a stronger representation, understanding and respect in the Greater Pittsburgh Community. It happens to be that his wife is part Hungarian — and proud of it! Both of the Cubelics and their children are dedicated Ethnic workers. Through hard efforts and organizing, the formalized Mayor’s Ethnic Parade has developed — although not without trouble; that is it has always lacked spectators and participants. Every city in the United States has already established its personalized par excellence point of representation except Pittsburgh. Although this city is older, on the average, than most United States cities its viable sellable individualistic charm and heritage have not been expanded to its fullest potential, considering that there are over fifty ethnic groups listed. The parade was represented by twenty-eight groups that all did exceptionally well! Our Group was represented by John Tusai, National Fraternal Director, from the William- Penn Association, and the Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western Pennsylvania: Rozsa Gerzsenyi, President and Alexander Jozsa Bodnar, Publicity, Parade, and Display Chairman — all members of the William Penn Association. Over 2/3 of the Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western Pennsylvania are William Penn Association members. Alexander Józsa Bodnár, Publicity Director
