First National Golf Tournament A Sunny Success Co-Chairpersons of the Golf Tournament, Lester Botkin and Director Barbara Botkin. Friday the thirteenth turned out to be a beautiful sunny day for the First National Golf Tournament held at the Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport, PA. An enthusiastic group of 76 participants hailed the event as a success. One hundred sixtynine people attended the dinner where over $5,000 worth of prizes were awarded to the golfers and dinner guests. The tournament, which was cochaired by William Penn Director Barbara Botkin and her husband PGA golf professional Les Botkin, attracted entrants from the Alliance and Columbus, Ohio areas as well as the Harrisburg and Detroit branches. Most of the participants were from the Pittsburgh area. Each golfer received a William Penn visor on No. 1 tee and enjoyed snacks on the course featured Helene Banes' homemade kolbász. Unfortunately the kolbász was consumed before several foursomes had a chance to sample it. (We won't run out next time.) During the Tournament, President John Sabo, National Secretary Gus G. Nagy, Vice Presidents Gay B. Banes and John Kenawell, and Director Joseph Arvay rounded the golf course greeting the players and taking pictures. Golf pro Les Botkin hit tee shots on No. 6 hole for the golfers, and they had the choice of using his drive or National President John Sabo, Director John Arvay and Ethel Sabo. their own. He also videotaped them on that hole. The films were viewed during the cocktail hour which preceded a luscious buffet dinner in the ballroom. Guests sat at tables topped with miniature golf greens, flagpins, tiny needlepoint golf bag favors and golf balls. The floral center pieces donned American and Hungarian flags and were given as door prizes. An array of prizes were awarded to many winners as follows: Low Gross-Men Dave Wahl-71 Golf Bag M.Lenosky-76 Titleist Metal Driver D. Hawthorne-79Dynamiter F.
