Gay B. Banes Honored At Testimonial Dinner . . . Gay B. Banes, Solicitor Gay B. Banes, Vice President of Planning and General Counsel for the William Penn Association, was honored recently at a Testimonial Dinner celebrating the completion of his 35 years of service as Solicitor for the South Allegheny School District in Port Vue, Pa. and his subsequent resigning from the position. The dinner was held on May 12, 1 984 at the Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport, Pa. where friends, relatives, educators, school board members and numerous public officials from all levels of government gathered to honor the 67 year old attorney. Several national officers and directors of the William Penn Association were present to honor their long-time colleague. The main speaker for the evening was the Honorable Judge Leonard C. Staisey of Common Pleas Court of Allegheny County. He described his friend Gay Banes as a man of the highest integrity dedicated to his work. Judges Francis Barry and Bernard McGowan cited Mr. Banes' endless energy, tirelessness and ambition to pursue a task to its ultimate, excellent completion. Charles W. Lalley, Superintendent of Schools, served as Toastmaster. Judge Leonard C. Staisey A resolution of the School Board presented by Board President Rosemary Bradley commended Mr. Banes for his outstanding, dedicated service as a Solicitor for the South Allegheny School District. Throughout his 35 years of service, the resolution stated, Mr. Banes discharged the duties and responsibilities of his office with the highest degree of competence, dedication and integrity. When the South Allegheny School District was formed in 1 966 after the merger of the Port Vue-Liberty, Glassport and Lincoln School Districts, Mr. Banes was appointed as the new District's first Solicitor. He has been the only Solicitor to serve the school district in its 18 year history. Charles W. Mr. Banes also served as a Solicitor for the Port-Vue - Liberty Joint School District and, prior to that, for the Port Vue School District beginning in 1 949. Other resolutions commending Mr. Banes were read and presented on behalf of the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Liberty Borough Council, Port Vue Borough Council, Glassport Borough Council, and South Allegheny Education Association.
